Currently, EFF's Do Not Track Policy list is being used to allowlist sites. This typically works, but it is limited to the top 1 million sites on the Tranco List. A few notable/significant sites are not on this list, and there are other ways to report that your site respects DNT. Therefore, I think it is worth changing or customizing our current approach.
- Getting a broader domain sample list to fetch policies from (I'm generating many custom Tranco Lists right now. Ideally I can use these custom lists in combination with the daily default lists to create a giant list of domains)
- Evaluating existing filter lists to see what domains are blocked to get websites that are not included in the default Tranco list (link rot is sadly real </3)
- Manually allowlisting sites that are known to respect DNT but do not have the DNT policy available. This can be maintained in its own file when generating the allowlist
- Allow restricting to sites that follow the Acceptable Ads standard? Me personally, I don't want it to click ads that respect my privacy, but I personally only want to see ads that respect both my privacy and my eyes
- Checking for Global Privacy Control - I'm going to do this, and I will need to maintain a blocklist of some kind! Some websites claim to respect the signal, but only actually do so in states where they are required by law. Looking at you, Yelp
