sfTreeView not updating bound CheckedItems on checkbox selection

When I run the demo SampleBrowser.Maui.TreeView.SfTreeView.Checkboxes.xaml it does not update the CheckedItems collection when selecting nodes. I have tried several settings and read the documentation. I can't get it to work no matter what I do.
