🎯 Goal

Ensure MapFlip accurately handles all edge cases across Apple Maps URLs and additional map provider link formats (supporting Issue #2). The parser framework must reliably handle short links, shared routes, coordinate formats, and internationalized queries without dropping parameters or failing gracefully.

🔍 Identified Edge Cases & Provider Formats

1. Apple Maps (maps.apple.com)

• Short Links (/p/...): Handle place ID redirects and query parameter extraction (q=...).
• Coordinates (ll=lat,lng vs sll=lat,lng): Convert to geo:lat,lng?q=lat,lng.
• Search Queries (q=...): Safely URI-encode UTF-8 search terms (Umlauts, CJK, Cyrillic).
• Navigation Links (saddr & daddr): Map origin (saddr) and destination (daddr) into navigation intents (google.navigation:q=destination or https://www.google.com/maps/dir/?api=1&origin=...&destination=...).

2. Bing Maps (bing.com/maps) — via Issue #2

• Center / Pin (cp=lat~lng & lvl=zoom): Extract latitude/longitude using ~ delimiter.
• Search Query (q=... or where=...): Map search locations to geo:0,0?q=....
• Directions (rtp=pos.lat_lng_Name~pos.lat_lng_Name): Parse multi-point route parameters.

3. OpenStreetMap (openstreetmap.org) — via Issue #2

• Marker Links (?mlat=lat&mlon=lng#map=z/lat/lng): Prioritize marker coordinates (mlat/mlon) over viewport center coordinates.
• Short Links (osm.org/go/...): Decode OSM shortcode base64 location hashes into lat/lng coordinates.

4. Yandex Maps (yandex.com/maps) — via Issue #2

• Location Links (?ll=lng,lat): Note swapped coordinate order (Longitude first, Latitude second).

🛠️ Technical Architecture

1. UniversalMapParser Strategy Architecture:
   Each provider parser implements UrlParser (canParse(url), parse(url)), isolating provider-specific edge-case handling.
2. Robust URI Parsing (java.net.URI + Regex Fallback):
   • Primary: Structured parsing via java.net.URI query string splitting.
   • Secondary Fallback: Regex extraction for malformed or non-standard URLs.
3. Comprehensive JVM Unit Test Suite:
   Maintain a test matrix of 30+ real-world URL samples across all supported providers in UniversalMapParserTest.kt.
4. Graceful Degradation:
   If a URL cannot be converted safely, fall back to opening the raw URL in the browser instead of crashing.
