We may decide this is outside the scope of DG, as I believe it would require extending the existing attachment framework to include URLs as an attachment.
It's possible that this would "just work" if some other plugin extended the attachment framework. This is by no means a high priority, but has been proposed enough times that it's worth having an issue for.
