Install latest version of wallet appropriate for your operating system (Windows, OSX, Linux).

Allow wallet to synchronize with the next work (first synchronization could take 2-3 hours based on network connection speed).
Password protect wallet.dat file Go to Settings -> Encrypt Wallet (you will need to restart your wallet application)
Backup your wallet.dat file to an external USB drive or other hardware wallet.
Default location of Wallet.dat is as follows:
Windows: C:\Users\YourUserName\Appdata\Roaming\Thoughtcore
OSX: ~/Library/Application Support/Thoughtcore/
Linux: ~/.thoughtcore
