...seems to be not important for the resulting image.
AFAIK, Mega Man X, Super Metroid, Demon's Crest (and probably other MM titles) uses gradual brightness change to enter pause menu.
- Press pause
- Brightness starts to decrement
- Load new BG layers
- Brightness goes up
In SNESticle (as tested in MMX and Demon's Crest) it does not happen. Values changed, but emulator's window does not reflect that, so user can briefly see flashes of garbage graphics.
In Demon's Crest that's largely inconsequential, since after pause-unpause BG refreshes as usual, but in almost all Mega man titles (+ Super Metroid) garbage sprites stay on the background, sometime changing priority of some tiles. In case of MMX1 its BG1, for example.
I wonder what causes BG to refresh properly in Demon's Crest, so we can at least investigate that and write some dirty hack for Mega Man and Super Metroid.
UPD: i restored brightness change (there was brigthness variable reset in UpdatePallete) but it still loads wrong tiles, huh
UPD2: it seems that UpdateCGRAM is not working properly since there's NULL in some pointers.
(i write it here because psx-place is broken and i can't even reply in any forum. newbie place included)
