Endpoints refactoring

Hi @tobiasehlert,

In #349 (comment) and #343 (comment) we discussed refactoring. I just wanted to check if this is still on the table. If it is, do you have any specific preferences or ideas in mind?

I know you are currently working on securing all endpoints, so I would like to sync up with you first to avoid any conflicts. Once we're on the same page, I can prepare a PR.
