St Patricks Day

I am using this integration through Home Assistant, and I have it set up for the US and Massachusetts, including M-F, and excluding weekends and Holidays. Today is St. Patricks Day, which is not an official holiday, but my sensor is reporting off. I tried with and without Government as additional holidays with the same result. How can I get holidays to only include official holidays?

Saint Patrick's Day is UNOFFICIAL category holiday, so it shouldn't appear in default holidays list. I haven't used Home Assistant, so I can't say how to select holiday categories there (but I think it's possible). Perhaps someone with relevant experience can give some advice. 🤷‍♂️

@broyuken do you know HA and holidays versions currently installed on your system?

I’m on 2026.3.2 of home assistant, not sure what version of holidays is being used as it’s a built in integration.

As for unofficial, you add that in by going to the additional categories as holidays section at the bottom of my screenshot in the main post and you can add government and unofficial categories in there.

I believe the Evacuation Day is not the state wide holiday, right @broyuken ?

@KJhellico should it be part of a bigger US update or we can update it earlier?

As a side note it seems HA stuck w/ version 0.84 of OWHF due to some incompatibility.

I’ve never heard of evacuation day in my life haha

Edit: oh it’s just 1 county in MA that observes that one, it’s not statewide.

IMO it might be for the best to move it to OPTIONAL category for now - note that "Evacuation Day" and the "Bunker Hill Day" on June 17th were de facto made into WORKDAY instead from 2011 onwards. [1] [2]

That and the official MA state as a whole Public Holidays list for 2024-2026
