How to pack a fresh image with customized setup?

Instead of the default btrfs filesystem and xfce desktop environment, I was willing to pack a bootable image with pre-installed GNOME desktop environment and f2fs filesystem, as they works better on detachable tablets, and there will be no need to remove xfce packages and reinstall GNOME(which might leave unused xfce config files in /home directory).
Is there any possible guidelines for doing so?

In other words, I wonder the procedure of creating the initial bootable system for a device before packed image was released.

for the patching part i'd suggest you take time to read/modifying the scripts

• for the packages that get installed look at https://github.com/velvet-os/imagebuilder/blob/main/scripts/create-chroot-stage-01.sh
• for the file system type i think swapping out this line should do the trick
