Structuring the reference index page is difficult because it's hard to split all of the reference pages up into 6-8 categories in a neat manner.

Aside from structure on the right being a bit illogical, it also doesn't contain any additional information when compared to the table of contents on the left.
Perhaps it's better to replace it with an SVG containing an overview of the various topics and how they relate to each other. Could be based on Fig 1 from the Viash arXiv paper:
