Thanks for reporting this. I checked all published versions on npm and none contain workspace:* in their dependencies -- pnpm resolves these to actual version numbers during publish.

I just verified a clean install of the latest version works:

$ npm install -g @gpc-cli/cli@0.9.76
added 48 packages in 7s

A few things that could cause this:

1. Stale npm cache -- try npm cache clean --force then reinstall
2. Installing from a local clone instead of the registry -- npm install inside the repo will see workspace:* in package.json, but npm install -g @gpc-cli/cli from the registry will not
3. Older npm version -- some older npm versions don't handle workspace protocol gracefully even in error messages

Could you try:

npm cache clean --force
npm install -g @gpc-cli/cli

And share the full error output if it still fails? Also, npm --version would help narrow it down.

Ran into the same issue. I was able to install 0.9.76 but nothing after that
