Description

A feature to get the proxy data from the server and update the proxy information of the profile.

Describe the solution you'd like

Add an option to add an url as the proxy information. On opening the profile or creating a new profile, the backend would call the url for the updated information of the proxy- ip:port:username:password -> if the response is valid the profile would update its proxy information.

Easier to maintain profiles where the proxy information is dynamic

Interesting, I haven't considered this. In which use-cases is this useful and which proxy providers offer proxy generation like this?

Don't know about other providers but localtonet provides this.

In localtonet you can set up your own proxy tunnels for your devices, and hence on restarting the tunnel it provides you with a different ip and port everytime. To solve this they provided their api to get the latest tunnel information.

I think this use case is unique for myself.

Thanks for sharing. That's new to me, but it is fairly straightforward to add. I plan on releasing 0.17 in the next 48 hours and will try to add ability to setup dynamin proxies that send a GET request to a url to get an expected proxy format and if it gets a valid response, it will launch the profile with that proxy. If not, the launch will fail

I just downloaded donut browser few hours ago and was kinda disappointed for not having this feature as its an essential part of the workflow, so I opened this issue. Never have I ever thought this would get solved this quickly 😂. Thank you very much.

Btw adding to the point the server generally return this json format -

my local api server is providing the proxy information here -

without protocol concatenated in the ip url ip: xxx.xx.x.xx

with protocol concatenate:

both result in same proxy failure.

Hey, I tested it, failed tho, error log -

Proxy test failed: Proxy resolved but connection failed: Failed to start test proxy: Proxy worker failed to start in time. Config: id=proxy_1773680992_1738573004, local_url=None, local_port=Some(59754), pid=Some(5176), process_running=false

My server's json response - {"ip": "socks5://xxx.xxx.xxxx", "port": port, "username": username, "password": password}

also the download is failing for both the browsers Camoufox stuck at 0 % and Wayfern is not downloading Failed to download browser: Failed to download browser: The system cannot find the path specified. (os error 3) tested on two different machines same network, same os. In the second machine Wayfern stuck at 0 % no error though

Also tested with vpn, download still failing.

Do you want me to test anything else?

1. What is your operating system?
2. Do you do anything else on your network? Wayfern is hosted on Cloudflare's CDN, Camoufox is hosted on GitHub's CDN, so if not, there is likely an issue with Donut. I just checked on all major operating systems and my downloads are going just fine
