several tests fail for openssl

To run an individual test (e.g. 01-test_sanity) with verbose, try:

make test TESTS=01-test_sanity V=1

Once built, you can also directly execute tests from the test directory, such as:

./sanitytest

This particular one is failing because the enums are of size 1 while int is of size 4.

@ejratl so - progress! I should have put down the list of failures here so we know how things are progressing... What do you think is the way to track these bugs? Just one issue that we update as fixes come in or should we spin off a few issues for the different problems?
