Cycles Mods

Free, open-source mods for the Elektron Model:Cycles, by 100demons. Each mod lives in its own folder, with its own README, its own license note and a download-ready zip. Take one, take all, put them in your own flasher or firmware.

Not affiliated with Elektron. Nothing here contains Elektron firmware. These are patches that are applied to your own official OS file. Flashing modified firmware is at your own risk and may void your warranty. Back up your projects first.

Mods

Engine What it does Status Version Folder
BLAM Twelve OPL2 FM percussion models and two SAM speech banks on one extra machine. experimental 1.0.0 engines/blam
BLAST Fourteen tonal OPL2 two-operator FM models, with a stepped modulator ratio on SWEEP. experimental 3.0.0 engines/blast
Feral Nine noisy, unpredictable synthesis models on one extra machine, light on the processor. tested 9.0.0 engines/feral9
LiXR A fixed-point drum voice with feedback FM, a pitch envelope and a sample-rate decimator where the filter would be. tested 3.0.0 engines/lixr

Status words: experimental = built and compiles, not yet proven. emulated = passes the emulator proof (runs the Model:Cycles' own code). tested = also tested on a real Model:Cycles (the mod's README says when).

How to grab a mod (for other developers)

  1. One engine: open its folder under engines/, or download its zip from the Releases page (<id>-<version>.zip).
  2. All engines, machine-readable: index.json at the top of this repo lists every engine, its version, status, license, knobs, requirements, conflicts and file paths. A flasher can read that one file to build its menu.
  3. Check the license in the engine's folder before you reuse it (default: MIT, see LICENSE). Keep the copyright notice and credit the author.
  4. Check requires and conflicts in the engine's engine.json.

What's inside a mod folder

engines/<id>/
README.md what it does, what each knob does, how heavy it is, status, credits
engine.json the "card": name, version, status, license, knobs, requires/conflicts, file list
CHANGELOG.md what changed in each version
  src/ the source code
addon/ the patch/add-on files the flasher applies (never a finished firmware image)

Compatibility notes

  • Engines are built for Model:Cycles OS 1.13.
  • A saved project stores which machine a track uses as a number. That number can depend on which engines were included in the build, so a project made with one combination may not load correctly in another. Keep a note of which engines you flashed.
  • The CPU budget is shared. Heavy engines on many tracks at once can starve the interface.

For contributors

See CONTRIBUTING.md. Please never submit Elektron firmware or anything built from it.

MIT, see LICENSE. Third-party code and ideas keep their own licenses, see THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.md.
