📖 Overview

Plannix is a complete event-management platform built with Django 6 and Bootstrap 5. It brings together everything needed to run an event-planning business online:

Customers browse a curated catalogue of event packages, read full details, and book their event in a few clicks — then track and cancel bookings from their own dashboard.
Staff manage the catalogue and process bookings from a dedicated operational dashboard.
Admins get the full picture — revenue, booking health, user management, feedback moderation — plus a branded Django administration panel.

The project demonstrates production-minded Django: role-based access control, session timeout handling, custom error pages, a seeded demo dataset, and a complete automated test suite (60+ tests) — all wrapped in a custom design system with its own tokens, components, and animations.

Whether it's a grand wedding, a corporate summit, or a sunset beach proposal, Plannix provides a streamlined digital workflow for customers, staff, and administrators.

Secure sign-up and sign-in with validation (duplicate usernames/emails, password mismatch, Django password validators)

🚀 Getting Started

Prerequisites

Python 3.12+ (developed on 3.13)
Git

1️⃣ Clone & enter the project

2️⃣ Create a virtual environment

3️⃣ Install dependencies

pip install -r requirements.txt

4️⃣ Configure the environment

Create a .env file in the project root. Copy the shape below and fill in your own values — never commit real credentials.

In development the email backend is console.EmailBackend, so outbound mail is printed to the terminal — no SMTP account is required to try the app.

5️⃣ Apply migrations

python manage.py migrate

6️⃣ (Optional) Seed demo data

Populates the app with 3 roles, 6 users, 20 event packages (5 categories × 4 events), 10 bookings, and 5 feedback entries — everything you need to explore every role immediately.

🧪 Running the Tests

The project ships with a comprehensive test suite covering authentication, the public catalogue, the booking flow (validation & conflicts), customer dashboards, staff management, admin management, and the custom error handlers.

🛡️ Security Notes

Secrets are read from .env only; nothing is committed with real values.
SESSION_COOKIE_SECURE, CSRF_COOKIE_SECURE, and SECURE_SSL_REDIRECT default to off for local development — flip them on behind TLS in production.
HSTS is pre-configured (1 year) — enable SECURE_HSTS_PRELOAD once you own the domain.
Authorization is deny-by-default: every protected view is guarded by login_required plus a role check; admin-only endpoints reject staff and customers.
