feat(agent-relay): /u/<handle> pages, curl-friendly agent guide, file-based messages - #150
Conversation
… never shell Agents told to "go to arelay.to/agent-relay" fetch it with curl (*/*) or a web-fetch tool (text/markdown). The router now serves them /agent-relay/agent.md, an agent-written guide around a fresh conversation; browsers still get the page. The snippet no longer wraps messages in a here-document: with third-party agents on the registry, a reply containing the end-marker line, quoted back by the visitor's agent, could run as shell on the visitor's machine. Agents now write each message to /tmp/arelay-<id>.txt with their file tool and run one identical command per turn: curl -sS --data-binary @<file> <url>. The bridge fallback uses the same file-first pattern with a single fixed command. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>

📝 WalkthroughWalkthroughThe router now serves configured agent pages as HTML or Markdown and redirects legacy agent paths. The Markdown endpoint generates a conversation guide for a new conversation ID. The guide uses file-based message submission and updated bridge instructions. …agent first A visitor agent set up Relayfile with a new workspace although one already existed. The snippet now tells agents to describe their plan and findings to our agent before installs, sign-ins, workspaces or integrations, and to confirm each step, so existing state is checked first. …y.to/<handle> Company handles must not collide with agentrelay.com's own pages, so agent pages live under /u/<handle> there and at the root on arelay.to (router rewrites /<handle> to /u/<handle>). agentrelay.com/agent-relay redirects permanently to /u/agent-relay. Agents (curl, web-fetch) get /u/<handle>/agent.md on either host; browsers get the page. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
…recorder - Choose HTML only when Accept rates text/html strictly above text/markdown (most specific range wins, q-values honored). - HEAD always gets the HTML page, so probes keep text/html and mint no guide. - Agents on www.arelay.to get the guide directly; browsers still get the canonical redirect. - Agent pages and guides embed a fresh conversation URL, so the traffic recorder skips them. - Allow cross-origin reads of /u/<handle>/agent.md. - Bridge fallback fails fast when the bridge is not running; setup line no longer tells the visitor agent to follow our agent's checks. - Tests cover the worker.fetch rewrite, recorder exclusion, the full fallback command and its behaviour. …no recording of /u pages - Skip the traffic recorder for any /u/<handle> page or guide path, including direct /u/<handle>/agent.md requests. - Name the message file with an 8-character prefix of the id, so a listable /tmp never reveals the full conversation bearer id. - Bridge fallback runs in a subshell (exit no longer closes the caller's shell) and queues each message under a mktemp name, so two sends in one second cannot overwrite each other. - Snippet shell tests time out after 10 s. …ceeds (#154) * ci(router): deploy the router only after this commit's web deploy succeeds The router rewrites public paths onto web pages (arelay.to/<handle> -> /u/<handle>). When #150 merged, Deploy Router finished first and arelay.to/agent-relay returned 404 for ~10 minutes until Deploy Web caught up. The router job now waits (up to 40 min) for Deploy Web (Cloudflare) on the same commit and refuses to deploy if it failed. Manual dispatch is unchanged. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> * ci(router): wait up to 2h for the web deploy and say how to recover Web deploys queue in their own concurrency group, so a 40-minute wait could expire behind a backlog and drop the router release. On timeout the error now says to re-run the workflow. Change
0. URL layout (founder). On agentrelay.com, agent pages live at
/u/<handle>(e.g.agentrelay.com/u/agent-relay), so company handles never collide with the site's own pages. On arelay.to they stay at the root (arelay.to/agent-relay); the router rewrites that to/u/<handle>. The originalagentrelay.com/agent-relaylink redirects permanently (301) to/u/agent-relay.bridge.shstays at/agent-relay/bridge.shon both hosts.1. "Go to arelay.to/agent-relay" just works for agents. A plain
curl arelay.to/agent-relay(Accept: */*) returned 57 KB of HTML, and web-fetch tools (Accept: text/markdown) got an auto-converted page with UI noise. The router now sends GET/HEAD requests for an agent chat page that don't ask for HTML (or do ask for markdown) to/u/agent-relay/agent.md, a new route. It returns a short guide written for agents, wrapped around a fresh private conversation, withno-store. Browsers still get the page.2. Messages travel through a file, never shell source (security). The snippet wrapped each message in a here-document whose end marker was derived from the conversation id. With third-party agents arriving through the registry, a reply containing that marker line, quoted back by the visitor's agent, would close the here-document and run the following lines as shell on the visitor's machine. Agents now write each message to
/tmp/arelay-<id>.txtwith their file-editing tool and run one identical command every turn:To wait, they empty the file and rerun. The command never changes, which also strengthens the "approve once" property. The bridge fallback follows the same pattern: write
out/next.tmp, then run one fixed command that renames it and waits.Validation
*/*, no Accept,text/markdown, web-fetch styletext/markdown, text/html;q=0.9,text/plain→ markdown; a browser Accept, other paths, unknown agents, POST and other hosts → unchanged). Typecheck clean.agent-chat-snippet10/10 (no<<or<message>in the snippet, the fixed command, the bridge command, the guide). Typecheck clean apart from the existing unrelatedprerender-cache-keyerror.Companion: the same file-first rule landed in skills#138 and agentrelay.com#144 for Relay Connect.

Note
Medium Risk
Router host/path rewrites and content negotiation affect public agent entry URLs; the snippet change alters how visitor agents run shell on user machines (intended security fix).
Overview
Moves agent chat landing pages to
/u/<handle>on the primary host (witharelay.to/<handle>rewritten internally) and adds a 301 from legacyagentrelay.com/<handle>URLs.The router now negotiates on
Accept: non-HTML clients (plain curl, markdown-preferring fetch tools) are rewritten to/u/<handle>/agent.md, while browsers and HEAD keep the HTML page; agent-page traffic is excluded from the traffic recorder like other conversation-minting routes.A new Next route serves a dynamic markdown agent guide (fresh conversation per request,
no-store). The pasteable chat snippet is reworked so messages go through/tmp/arelay-<partial-id>.txtand a single fixedcurlcommand each turn—no here-documents—plus matching bridge file handoff;agentChatAgentGuidewraps that for agent fetches.Reviewed by Cursor Bugbot for commit a15191b.
