Ai West Africa (AiWA) is a Gambian-rooted educational and language initiative supporting literacy, publishing, storytelling, and the preservation of West African languages and cultural expression.
Working across schools, communities, and creative programmes, AiWA helps young people develop reading, writing, oral storytelling, and publishing skills while celebrating local languages and traditions.
AiWA combines educational practice, community collaboration, and responsible technology to support culturally grounded learning and creative expression in The Gambia and across West Africa.
AiWA develops and supports programmes in:

Our work includes school partnerships, workshops, student publishing initiatives, oral history projects, educational archives, and culturally respectful language documentation.
AiWA believes technology should support people, culture, and education --- not replace them.
We work through community participation, contributor consent, safeguarding practices, local partnership, and culturally respectful educational methods.
We do not treat communities, languages, or oral traditions as commodities or extractive datasets.
