Welcome to the postodon wiki!

What is postodon?

At its core, postodon is a bot that posts to Mastodon at a regular interval and will follow slash commands, which will trigger an automatic reply with a new post.

The posts generally consist of an intro string and a content string. Here's an example post:

Hi there! Today's journal prompt for you:

If you had to be a circus performer for the rest of your life, what would you want to do in the circus and why?

As you can see, the first line is the intro, taken from a list of intros. Then the second line is the content, also taken from a list. These lists are provided by you via the intros.txt and content.txt files, respectively.

Slash commands

postodon is able to provide on-command replies to anyone who's post reaches the bot account's notifications feed. Once postodon receives its configured slash command, postodon will reply to the individual with a new post, in the same format as the automated posts.

Example:

@brandon@fosstodon.org: @promptodon@botsin.space /prompt

@promptodon@botsin.space: Hi there! Today's journal prompt for you:

If you had to be a circus performer for the rest of your life, what would you want to do in the circus and why?

This slash command can be configured via the .env file. See the Basic production setup section of this wiki for more information on the values that can be set in the .env file.
