Welcome to the ServiceNow Developer Course — a free, open-source learning path that takes you from writing your first line of JavaScript to designing production-grade platform architecture, taught by TechTalk with Bill.
This course goes beyond development. Its deeper purpose is to make you AI-ready: AI can now generate ServiceNow code in seconds, but without solid foundations you cannot tell whether that code is correct, safe, or maintainable. The fundamentals you build here are what let you confidently direct, review, and trust AI-assisted development instead of shipping builds that quietly break.

Every topic in this course is one video from the ServiceNow Developer Course playlist, and every video has its own page here. The video is embedded on the page, so you watch and read in the same place, then build the exercise in your own free instance before moving on.
Nothing is hidden behind a paywall. The written material, the code, and the videos are all free and open.
ServiceNow certifies administrators, developers, and implementation specialists — but it does not certify a software architect. That gap is the reason this course exists. The path is deliberate:
| Stage | What you become | Covered in |
|---|---|---|
| 1 · Beginner | You can script safely and know where code runs | Modules 0–2 |
| 2 · Developer | You can build and query on the server with confidence | Modules 3–4 |
| 3 · Advanced | You design with patterns, not with copy-paste | Module 5 |
| 4 · Integration & reliability | You build systems that survive production | Module 6 |
| 5 · AI-ready architect | You architect platforms AI agents can safely work on | Module 7 |
{% hint style="info" %} Why "AI-ready" matters — and why it is the whole point. AI can generate ServiceNow code in seconds, but it cannot tell you whether that code is correct, safe, or maintainable — only you can. Without these foundations, the correctness of any AI build is a gamble: it may look right, pass a demo, then fail in production. The fundamentals in this course are exactly what let you direct, review, and trust AI-assisted development instead of shipping something that breaks. Clean layers, reusable Script Includes, injected dependencies, and consistent error handling are also the properties that let AI assistants extend your application without breaking it. Good architecture is now an AI-readiness requirement, not a style preference. {% endhint %}
- Course Objectives — what you will be able to do when you finish, and who this is for.
- Course Syllabus — the complete curriculum, module by module and topic by topic.
- How to Use This Course — the learning loop, the pace, and how each page is laid out.
- Module 0 · Getting Started & Your PDI — orientation, then create and configure your free instance before you write any code.
- Modules 1 → 6 — work through them in order. Each one assumes the previous one.
- Module 7 · Final Exercise & Assessment — build the final project and score it against the rubric.
{% hint style="warning" %} Do not skip Module 0. Every exercise from Module 1 onwards runs in your own Personal Developer Instance (PDI). Set it up first — create your PDI, then configure it. {% endhint %}
