Failed to Load SDL3 Library

Hello,

I have been getting this error for some reason all of a sudden and not sure what to do. I have Steam installed in a Wine prefix through Heroic Launcher. Before Steam loads up, I get the error and sometimes the windows for the Steam store will not show and sometimes it will. It seems to be at random. I looked through the log file but didn't see anything that pointed to the problem. I installed SDL in the Wine prefix but that didn't do anything.

SDL3 libraries are installed in CachyOS. Please let me know if you would like me to add anything.

Why are you running Windows Steam in the first place? Also how is SDL related? The log has a single mention of it as a winetricks verb.

I have it for one game, Left 4 Dead 2. The Native version of the game has a nasty bug that crashes the game, the fire ammo bug, so I run the Windows version of the game to avoid it. The only way to play it that way is to run Steam in Wine because it won't work with Proton.

Also how is SDL related?

I do not know but Wine-CachyOS pops up a small window showing that error. The Windows Steam version has SDL libraries in its root folder. I am not sure if it is related.

Are you aware that you can force native games installed on native Linux Steam to download the Windows build by just going into Properties > Compatibility > Toggle "force specific Steam Play variant"?

Lots of work for something that is as easy as that...

Apparently, you did not read my post. You can run the game with Proton but won't be able to join any multiplayer servers. It will give you a Steam VAC error. The only way to run the Windows variant is to run it with Wine and that involves installing Steam in a Wine prefix and then install the game. It involves little work to get it working like that in Heroic.

On a separate note, when I mentioned sometimes Steam won't launch was because of Mangohud. The SDL3 error does not seem to affect any functionality with Steam. For the moment, I ignore it.
