12-35: 🗄️ Data Integrity & Integration | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick winBuild the returned config from validated fields only.
validateAiConfigreturns the raw IPC object. Fields that were not validated are passed toconfig.write. For example, ifengineisosorbundled, the function does not checkwireFormat, baseUrl, ormodel. A non-stringmodelthen reachesinput.model ?? ''and is persisted. The nextread()call rejects the stored config, and the saved setting is silently reset to empty. 139-153: 🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick winTreat replies without a
requestIdas errors for the active request. The listener drops a reply only when it has a different
requestId. Replies without an ID reach every listener. Aprobereply without an ID is ignored, which is safe. The Windows helper emits{type:"error", reason:"invalidRequest"}without arequestId. If any line fails to parse, that error rejects the in-flight generation, even when the bad line belonged to a different request. The concrete trigger today is narrow. The larger risk is inkill(): it sends a synthetic{type:'error'}to all listeners, including pendingprobelisteners, andproberesolves those as anerrorreply. That reply maps toavailable:falsewithreason:'not-enabled', and the result is cached. As a result, if a user cancels a generation while a probe is pending, OS AI stays reported as "not enabled" until an explicit refresh.Make
proberesolve a reply of typeerroras a failure (reject the promise, do not cache). This keeps a transient kill from becoming a cached negative status.Proposed fix
const listener = (reply: Reply) => { if (reply.type !== 'probe' && reply.type !== 'error') return; clearTimeout(timer); this.listeners.delete(listener); - resolve(reply); + if (reply.type === 'error') reject(new AiFailure('error')); + else resolve(reply); };🤖 Prompt for AI Agents

Selected channels and DMs hid their unread badges even when the saved read position still left messages unread. The App sidebar continued to count those messages, so a selected channel could look clear while the sidebar showed 69 unread. Selected conversation-picker rows also hid unread counts and MECP severity. Show the computed unread count on selected channel pills, DM pills, and picker rows until an actual read action advances the watermark. Include DM counts in accessible names. Keep the picker's existing aggregate of other conversations. This follows the badge/Catch up discrepancy reported alongside #1277. That PR fixes Catch up's saved-read-position fallback; this independent change fixes badge presentation. The screenshot alone does not establish the cause of Zeva's particular persistent count. Validation: - Regression tests cover channel re-entry, remaining above the bottom, and clearing after scrolling to the bottom across Meshtastic/MeshCore and Linux/macOS/Windows. - DM regressions cover all three protocols and platforms while unfocused, followed by clearing on refocus. - Picker tests verify selected counts, MECP severity, and accessibility. - Full `pnpm run check:pr`: lint, all type checks, and 15,980 passing tests (5 skipped). <!-- This is an auto-generated comment: release notes by coderabbit.ai --> ## Summary by CodeRabbit * **Bug Fixes** * Unread counts and MECP severity indicators now remain visible for selected channels and direct messages, including while the app window is unfocused or the conversation is scrolled above the bottom. * Unread counts clear when the conversation’s read position advances. * Conversation picker rows now show unread counts for the selected channel as well as other conversations. <!-- end of auto-generated comment: release notes by coderabbit.ai -->

44-48: 🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick winStop at the first message that no longer fits. Skip only messages that are too large by themselves.
The loop walks from the newest message to the oldest. When a line does not fit the remaining budget, the loop runs
continue. It does not stop. The loop then keeps adding older, shorter messages. As a result, the transcript can be missing a message from the middle of the selected range.Example trigger:
- An older short message asks a question ("Can someone check the repeater?").
- A newer, longer message answers it.
- The answer does not fit the remaining budget, but the question does.
- The model sees the question without the answer.
The system prompt says "Put unanswered requests first and mark them still open". So the summary reports the question as still open, which is wrong. The UI shows
included/truncated, but it does not show that the included range has a gap.The
continueis only needed for a message that is too large to fit even into an empty transcript. That case is tested atsrc/main/ai/core.test.tsLines 161-181. For every other line that does not fit, stop the loop. Then the prompt always covers one unbroken range of the newest messages.🐛 Proposed fix

Show an explicit queued status when another summary is running, and explain per-engine message budgets in App → AI and on the Catch up card.
Paginate history up to a user-set ceiling (default 2000) and map/reduce chunk summaries so on-device engines can cover far more than one pass.
Pack batches with the same prompt formatter as main, including metadata, JSON escaping and local timestamps. Split oversized messages without dropping text and count each original source message once. Abort stalled pass acknowledgements, reject partial coverage and bound digest reduction. Share parent rate-limit admission across child steps, finish native and worker cleanup before advancing, and keep synthetic digest ordering values out of chat timestamp text.
MeshCore WiFi companion is TCP (stored as http); stop uppercasing the raw type so the status bar matches Connection Type labels.
Cap map/reduce completion tokens so bundled Catch up spends less time decoding intermediate digests; use multi-thread WASM under Vite COI.

Adds opt-in Catch up summaries to Meshtastic/MeshCore channels and DMs, Reticulum DMs/RRC, and MeshCore rooms. AI starts disabled, requires explicit engine/model selection, and never posts messages automatically. Users can summarize unread, recent or loaded traffic, cancel, copy completed output, regenerate, dismiss, or open AI settings.
Supports eligible native OS AI, verified downloaded GGUFs through bundled CPU WASM, local servers and acknowledged HTTPS providers. Main owns encrypted credentials and endpoint requests. Cards disclose off-device hosts. Disable and configuration changes cancel work and clear summaries. AI and notification disclosure headers follow the existing settings layout; new guidance is localized.
The implementation revalidates the plan against conversation identity, unread state, privacy and real runtimes:
Integrated
origin/mainat2f8ad7a0, resolving the generated license-report conflict. The previous main integration ranpnpm updatewith the incoming pnpm 12.14.0 pin. The merged graph retains Wllama 3.8.1 and resolves Electron 44.8.0. Frozen-lockfile installation, dependency deduplication, the generated license report, and the production build were verified.Follow-up fixes for reported missing controls/dividers:
Startup status reads now time out after ten seconds, retry up to three times and recover on window focus. While status is unknown, strict saved opt-in exposes only Set up Catch up; known disabled status overrides it. History and inference still require authoritative readiness. Superseded, timed-out and configuration-stale replies cannot restore old state, and teardown cancels retries/listeners. Concurrent checks share actual model hashing by file signature; advisory metadata cannot satisfy runtime verification. This fixes reproducible hiding paths; Joey's exact device-specific startup cause remains unconfirmed.
First-time RRC rooms capture the actual first unread arrival instead of deriving it from the transcript suffix, which includes notices and self traffic. This also covers an arrival racing blur before React updates read state. Captured state follows canonical hub/room/session ownership and clears with unread state. The divider works with AI disabled; reaching the latest messages clears it normally.
Waiting summaries now run in order through actual stream/worker completion, with cancellation and timeouts retained after endpoint acknowledgement. Cancelled queued requests are skipped; configuration changes and teardown invalidate waiting work; bundled worker cleanup finishes before the next job starts.
Each conversation keeps its selected summary range across tab/protocol switches and remounts, including custom hours, so Regenerate no longer falls back to unread.
Prompt metadata identifies the local IANA timezone, and transcript timestamps include local dates and UTC offsets across midnight, daylight-saving fallback and fractional-hour zones.
Batch coverage uses one shared prompt formatter in renderer and main, accounting for full local timestamps, metadata and JSON escaping. Every pass must include its complete input; partial coverage fails rather than claiming success. Digest reduction must shrink and stops after eight rounds. Digest ordering values are never rendered as synthetic 1970 chat dates. Stalled acknowledgements race cancellation/deadlines and release their waiters. Child map steps share one parent admission; worker and native cleanup finish before advancing.
Catch-up queue UX: waiting cards again show the explicit queued-wait copy (not a misleading “preparing” state). Capacity and truncation copy separates the collected snapshot from what one inference pass can fit, and App → AI surfaces per-engine capacity estimates so “N of M included” is understandable.
Multi-pass Catch up for large unread ranges: App → AI adds a collectable message ceiling (default 2000, clamped 100–5000). History pagination (
beforeAt/beforeId) gathers up to that ceiling newest-first. When the collected set exceeds one pass’s prompt budget, the renderer runs hierarchical map → reduce → final summarization with shared progress, cancel, whole-job timeout, and a multi-pass rate-limit exemption. Bundled WASM keeps the loaded model warm across map/reduce chunks. Cards and capacity hints disclose multi-pass coverage; docs and settings search cover the new control.Validation for
c54cece7: full lint and typechecks, including strict shared checks, passed. The complete Vitest suite passed 16,514 tests (5 skipped) with--maxWorkers=2; normal commit hooks passed 1,249 related tests. Focused coverage includes all collected messages, oversized Unicode fragments, all three protocols, partial-coverage rejection, cancellation/timeouts, retained worker failures, cleanup and parent/child rate limits. Current-head CI is tracked separately. CodeRabbit remains paused by user request and has not reviewed these changes.Earlier validation:
env -u RUST_LOG pnpm run check:prpassed full lint, typechecks and all 16,482 application tests (5 skipped);pnpm run buildand the strict MkDocs build passed. Normal commit hooks forab97de02passed policy checks and 634 related tests. Previous headcf7e2421passed CI Build, all test/coverage lanes, CodeQL, renderer chaos and native AI helper checks. CodeRabbit reviewed cf7e242 and remains paused by request for newer commits. All 19 model-cache regressions pass; the earlier 17-case model-cache suite also passed under Node 22.23.2 with scoped V8 coverage. Cache reads validate and read the same descriptor with bounded, nonblocking I/O; oversized files, symlinks and named pipes fall back to hashing. Focused regressions cover selected-room badges, hydration, same-room reconnect, delayed stale responses, room/hub isolation, queued frames, scroll preservation and accessibility on all three platforms. The real browser virtualizer opened at the unread divider, preserved the scroll offset when traffic arrived, cleared it on catching up and fit a narrow viewport. Existing badge accessibility cases retain their 69-message fixture and all six protocol/platform cases. Browser smoke tests confirm setup navigation, ready/off transitions, saved-opt-in setup during stalled startup status, zero setup history/inference calls, and desktop/390px layouts without overflow or page errors. The new RRC notice-after-unread fixture renders the divider in the real virtualizer with AI disabled. Both independent code and architecture reviews approved the follow-up fixes. Separate settings smoke testing also verifies the two-model catalog, timeout validation/persistence, saved HTTP-key warnings and a 390px layout without overflow or page errors. Multi-pass commit hooks forca45b512passed Prettier, i18n, typecheck, and staged Vitest related coverage.Audit fixes: missing optional Apple helpers warn and disable OS AI while packaging continues; every package pass clears stale helper resources. Windows NSIS installers exclude the currently unusable self-contained helper; Windows source compilation remains in native validation CI. Mandatory Reticulum sidecar validation is unchanged. Model byte-progress IPC is throttled to 100 ms with immediate state transitions. Persisted digest/size/mtime/ctime/file-identity metadata accelerates catalog and status checks, while the first runtime use per process still requires SHA-256 verification. Forged advisory metadata cannot authorize model bytes. Settings warn for saved or typed API keys sent over HTTP LAN/.local endpoints, including canonical URL edits. Test connection requires saving draft endpoint/key/timeout changes first so it cannot silently use the old saved server; Save restores the canonical URL. Existing main-only encrypted key storage is retained: migrating into the shared secret store without an IPC boundary change would expose AI keys through its generic get/getAll API.
The unreleased notes in
docs/release-notes/ai-catch-up.mdexplicitly list RRC unread dividers, selected-room badges, scroll preservation and read lifecycle fixes that apply with AI disabled.Real production-worker trials used hash-verified GGUFs and a synthetic 41-message fixture. Llama completed in about 86 seconds; the earlier Qwen 1.5B trial took about 136 seconds. These bounded runtime checks do not establish accuracy. SmolLM2 was removed after factual errors in the synthetic trial and user reports of transcript copying/timeouts. Native Apple completion was separately exercised. Windows Phi Silica still needs eligible hardware, package identity and Microsoft LAF credentials; the current NSIS installer does not ship its helper. Other engines remain available.
