OSC and OSCQuery mdns issues

ok i think the oscquery advertising is being misshandled. in all versions (mine in binary/installer form and the og in the zip archive) i am getting diffrent results on mdns/bonjor/avahi output based on os

so the behavor is the same across versions
the os's are getting diffrent responses

on linux it is seeing 2 ip addresses being avertized
on windows it sees no addresses, just the service

linux cli of mdns (using avahi-browse)

avahi-browse -avrpt | grep osc | grep ARC

it is also missing the osc.local service which tells vrchat where to send osc data do

tested on windows and linux, version 0.93.2 on electron 33 and my version 0.93.3 on electron 43.2

some extra notes i learned about the oscjson port advertised by the vrchat client (not arc)

on windows builds (so windows/linux[proton])

• the udp osc port is advertised and bound to the correct ip/0.0.0.0
• the http oscjson tcp port is advertised and on 127.0.0.1 only. loading it like a webpage works, but only on 127.0.0.1, localhost will return a bad host response (this is a windows bug/feature not a how vrchat coded it feature)

on android (and assuming ios)

• both the udp osc and tcp http oscjson ports are advertised on the correct ip (kinda)
• quest has no issues, but if you are on a phone with cell and wifi, for some reason it will advertise on the wifi ip, but bind to the cellphone ip. fix for now is to start vrc with mobile data off even if connected to wifi

so leveraging oscjson data for remote clients only works properly for mobile/quest

To clarify, the client has explictly and only ever been tested for windows machine, Linux/Android/Quest has been 100% untested and unconfirmed, Those platforms were not in the list for testing/trials till release came around due to the debugging time to assure everything works as intended.

yeah that last post was more about how vrchat (not arc) advertises it's osc features
so even if you drop building for linux, it will still be useful for windows builds for players who play standalone quest and want to leverage this tool using a spare laptop or something.

oscjson being a http (and i think web socket) session that shows all paramaters and their values in real time
and osc udp being the way to change those values (and see updates when the values are touched, other wise it is silent)

Hi! I’ve opened #35 to address this. It fixes the mDNS/Bonjour/Avahi advertising issues for OSC/OSCQuery, including the inconsistent address visibility and the missing osc.local service that VRChat needs to discover where to send OSC data. Let me know if anything looks off!

Thank you for the pull req, However I've completed the local changes, I've just been redesigning and enhancing the ws connection. Nothings pushed.

Status update — the mDNS/Bonjour/Avahi fix is completed locally but not yet published in any release. Changes are sitting on a local branch while the WS connection redesign + enhancements are finalized.

Tracked via Status: Pending Release label. This issue will be closed once a release ships with the fix; PR link to follow when pushed.
