Snapmaker Studio v1.5.1

Release PR for v1.5.1. Merge with a merge commit, not squash or rebase (the publish workflow requires the release-candidate commit to be an ancestor of the tag).

What is in it

main at b01f7d0 plus #95 (keyboard-operable tool tabs) and #96 (source-backed setting explanations and checked guide answers), merged into this branch only, plus:

  • the Windows upgrade smoke test now upgrades from the published v1.5.0 installer (it used to start from v1.1.0),
  • the user guide describes v1.5.1 (version, source links, evidence note),
  • the version bump to 1.5.1,
  • a documentation commit (metadata, release notes, CHANGELOG, README, TRUST_STATUS, evidence, four README screenshots from the candidate's own installed run).

Not in it: #97, #98 and the orientation work, and the follow-up fixes for #91, #92, #93, #94 and #39.

Frozen candidate

Source abf20bf0f74d44eb66b793c317fd303d518e5828, release-candidate run 37947895421. The only changes since that commit are documentation (README.md, CHANGELOG.md, docs/**), which is what the publish workflow's gate allows.

Gates (all against those exact bytes)

  • Release-candidate build, Windows and Linux; Linux clean-environment validation on Ubuntu 22.04 and 24.04 (49/49 each); Windows default-path upgrade smoke from the published v1.5.0 installer on a disposable GitHub-hosted runner: pass.
  • Windows installed-application acceptance: 50/50, acceptance-identity copy of the candidate on a freshly created clean local account, upgrade variant from the published v1.5.0 installer, production-state tripwire 0 violations, no orphan processes (run h3ad0b07139b54ea7a9fae0f424148a50, exit code 0).
  • Update-check state-root probe on the installed candidate: the preference file is written inside the lane's data directory and the production path stays absent: pass.
  • Real Snapmaker U1, read-only: 76/76, with both seeded providers (Spoolman 0.27.0 and Bambuddy 1.2.5.7) participating and no check skipped.
  • Publish dry run (run 37949190719): pass, no tag or draft left behind.
  • Backend 2927 passed / 49 skipped, desktop 852, Rust 49, tsc, build clean.

Limits (stated honestly)

  • The acceptance and hardware runs use the acceptance-identity copy of the installer. The production installer's registration, shortcuts, default-path install, upgrade and uninstall are exercised only on the disposable GitHub-hosted runners.
  • The user guide's screenshots were captured from v1.5.0 and were not retaken.
  • No real SpoolEase device was tested. Packaged-window behavior under screen readers and macOS is not covered.

After approval (not done yet)

Merge (merge commit), annotated tag v1.5.1 on the merge commit, push the tag (starts the publish workflow: publish, flip, verify), then read the live release page.

Not merged, not tagged, not published.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Version 1.5.1 adds spool-inventory selection and controls for forgetting saved mappings.
    • Prepare setting changes now include explanations and labels identifying their source.
    • Added task-first user-guide links and clearer estimated-cost wording.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Improved recovery when saved-mapping files cannot be read, and made printer-action confirmations more accessible.
  • Accessibility
    • Tool tabs now support keyboard navigation and improved screen-reader labeling.

DVOpenLabs and others added 9 commits October 8, 2026 19:36
ToolTabs now follows the WAI-ARIA tabs pattern with manual activation: ids and
aria-controls/aria-labelledby, a named tablist, roving tab stop, arrow/Home/End
(Alt/Ctrl/Meta ignored), predictable selection and focus when a tab disappears,
a visible focus ring and a narrow layout that wraps. Panels stay unmounted when
inactive, so arrows move focus only and Enter/Space/click activate.

Verified: tsc clean; vitest 839/839 (23 in the new tab files); build ok.

Real engine and this branch's UI in headless Edge; off-machine hosts and
sockets are blocked and recorded; results.json records the base commit, a dirty
flag and a hash of the tested change. Not run: Tauri window, WebKitGTK, screen
readers.

…answers

Each setting Studio changes in a U1 copy now carries a plain-language reason
and an evidence label: "Studio's check" (Studio did or checked it) or "Verify
in Snapmaker Orca" (advice to check; no claim about Orca behavior).

- convert/orca_import/rules: atomic {reason, explanation, source, kind} per
change; per-filament list repairs describe exactly what happened (fill,
resize, trim, text conversion); fixes a preserve-mode invariant failure on
  numeric filament lists.
- Guide: source references and checked-version line per page, a golden-answer
  manifest (answers.json) with test-owned fact ids/derives/tokens, and
committed mutation tests against the real checker.
- Print readiness row states the score is not a probability of print success.
- Cost Doctor says "estimated cost".

Verified: backend 2905 passed/49 skipped; desktop vitest 828 passed; tsc and
build clean; guide check 50/50; guide e2e 1462/1462; git diff --check clean.
Implemented by codex gpt-5.6-luna 01a11dca-f5f8-7493-aeb5-b0a2baee8819;
committed by wrapper due to sandbox git-metadata restriction.
Reviewed (manifest-5): Opus, Sol, Astra, Fable - all APPROVE.

…s in tests

Addresses two review findings on this PR.

- orca_import: the per-filament list repair now computes its fill, trim and
text-conversion flags only over the entries that survive truncation. Entries
dropped by a resize are reported once, as a resize. Written values are
  unchanged.
- Guide claim derives: the build no longer scans source text. It checks only
the shape of each derive reference (valid prefix, existing target file,
valid identifier). Real symbol resolution now lives in the tests: backend
and test references are imported and resolved with getattr (callable
required for tests), and the app reference is checked against the real
  module's exports. Near-miss, comment-only, docstring-only and
escaped-triple-quote cases are covered by negative tests.
- EVIDENCE.md/README.md: state that the build checks shape and file existence
only, and drop the duplicated evidence-kinds paragraph.

Verified: backend 2925 passed/49 skipped; vitest 829 passed; tsc, build,
guide check 50/50 and guide e2e 1462/1462 clean; git diff --check clean.
Edited directly by the implementation wrapper (gpt-5.6-luna session
01a11dca-f5f8-7493-aeb5-b0a2baee8819 was not dispatched for these rounds).
Reviewed on the final state (manifest-9): Opus and Sol approve.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
- release-candidate.yml: the Windows upgrade smoke test now installs the
published v1.5.0 installer (sha256 verified against the live release) and
upgrades it with the release candidate, instead of v1.1.0.
- site/guide: version, checked-against versions and source links move to
v1.5.1; EVIDENCE.md states that screenshots were captured from the
installed v1.5.0 release and have not been recaptured. Guide rebuilt.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Version surfaces only (package.json and lockfile root fields, tauri.conf.json,
Cargo.toml and Cargo.lock, pyproject.toml). bundle.publisher is untouched.
The release-governance tests that compare the manifests with
docs/RELEASE_METADATA.md are expected to fail on this commit until the
documentation commit records the release candidate; this is the lint doing
its job.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Docs and evidence only (README, CHANGELOG, docs/**), recorded against the
release candidate built from abf20bf (run 37947895421):
- RELEASE_METADATA with the candidate's names, sizes and SHA256 values and the
build run; v1.5.0 moves to "Previous release".
- Release notes, CHANGELOG, README (download block, what's new, counts) and
the four README screenshots captured from the candidate's own installed run.
- TRUST_STATUS: v1.5.1 gates - installed-application acceptance 50/50 (clean
local account, upgrade from the published v1.5.0 installer, production-state
tripwire 0), real Snapmaker U1 read-only 76/76 with both seeded providers
participating, update-check state-root probe, publish dry run, Linux
  clean-environment 49/49 on 22.04 and 24.04.
- Immutable snapshot docs/internal/evidence/1.5.1.json; acceptance and
hardware evidence files; HARNESS_ISOLATION records the verified override.

Backend 2927 passed / 49 skipped, desktop 852, Rust 49. The changed paths since
the candidate commit are documentation only.

18-21: 🩺 Stability & Availability | 🔵 Trivial | ⚡ Quick win

Object.hasOwn requires a recent runtime.

The cast avoids a TypeScript lib error, but the call still fails at runtime if Object.hasOwn is missing. Older WebViews on some platforms lack it. The call would then throw a TypeError during render of notes.

Use Object.prototype.hasOwnProperty.call(LABELS, kind) instead. It needs no cast and works everywhere.

Proposed fix

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Use the current release tag in the negative source-ref cases.

resolveSourceRef requires the prefix /DVOpenLabs/snapmaker-studio/blob/v${G.site.version}/. The guide version is now 1.5.1. Four cases use v1.5.0, so the prefix check rejects all four first. As a result, the missing-file, missing-fragment and .. traversal checks never run. A regression in repoPathExists or in the fragment lookup would still pass this test. The /absolute/... and @does_not_exist cases also fail early, at URL parsing and alias lookup.

Build these refs from guide.json site.version. Then add one case for an absolute path under the correct tag.

Update the negative source-reference cases in the test containing the `for ref`
loop to build versioned refs from `guide.json`’s `site.version`, so
missing-file, missing-fragment, and traversal checks use the current release
tag. Add an absolute repository path under that matching tag while retaining the
existing cases for invalid tags, URL paths, and aliases.

Valid: the four negative source-ref cases still use v1.5.0, so the tag-prefix check rejects them before the missing-file, missing-fragment and traversal checks run. It is a test-strength issue, not product behavior, and the file is under backend/, which is frozen with the release candidate (a change there would need a new candidate). Fixed in the follow-up PR #103, which already edits the guide-claim tests (refs built from guide.json site.version plus an absolute-path case under the correct tag). Leaving this thread open until that lands.

@DVOpenLabs Thanks for clarifying. This affects test coverage, not product behavior. Keeping the frozen release candidate unchanged makes sense. The finding remains open until the fix in #103 lands.

4. "Moving the objects as one piece would not bring them all on…" lacks a destination ("onto the plate").
5. "Upload sliced gcode" should read "G-code" like the rest of the app.
6. Cost Doctor says "true cost to make" for an estimate built on user assumptions.
6. Fixed in the app (`BusinessDoctors.tsx`): Cost Doctor now says "estimated cost". The committed screenshot still shows the old wording until it is recaptured.

Recapture the Cost Doctor screenshot before shipping the guide.

The evidence table lists the cost screenshot for Additional tools. This screenshot still shows “true cost to make,” while v1.5.1 says “estimated cost.” Replace the screenshot so the guide’s visual evidence matches the app.

Recapture the Cost Doctor screenshot referenced by the evidence table in
EVIDENCE.md so it shows “estimated cost” instead of “true cost to make,” and
replace the outdated committed screenshot.

Valid, and already disclosed: EVIDENCE.md states that the committed cost screenshot still shows the old wording (the app text was fixed). Recapturing it changes a guide asset under site/, which is outside the documentation-only delta allowed after the frozen release candidate (the publish workflow refuses it), so it is deferred to a follow-up change on main right after the release. Tracked; leaving this thread open until that lands.

@DVOpenLabs Thanks for the clarification. The mismatch is disclosed, and the frozen release-candidate constraint explains the deferral. This finding stays open until the screenshot update lands on main after v1.5.1 is published.

Would you like a separate GitHub issue, or is the existing tracking sufficient?

Learning: In DVOpenLabs/snapmaker-studio, the release publish workflow restricts changes after a frozen release candidate to README.md, CHANGELOG.md, and docs/**. Guide assets under site/ are outside that allowed delta. Do not request guide-asset recaptures as pre-release changes after the release candidate is frozen; such changes require a post-release follow-up.

…s v1.5.1

Documentation only. The release notes now say Studio does not start a print
without the user's confirmation (Printer Hub has a confirmed Start action), and
the Final Submission evidence table's introduction names the v1.5.1
release-candidate build instead of v1.3.1.

Takes only the release-candidate.yml change of #101 (537cae9): the baseline
installer is the published v1.5.0 (sha256 d443f64f5167239f1422c719882cf245cff5d00d40c55fb67fc5a1e497b84e82,
matching the release asset, its SHA256SUMS and docs/RELEASE_METADATA.md), and the
registration check expects DisplayVersion 1.5.0. Replaces the v1.1.0 baseline.
A release candidate must be rebuilt after this change (Gate 2: only docs-only
differences are allowed between the RC commit and the tag).

Closing as a superseded release vehicle. v1.6.0 was published on 2026-10-21 (tag v1.6.0, commit dd14a3c) and v1.5.1 was never released. This closure does not mean any of the unmerged work below shipped.

Branch release/v1.5.1 (head 2bd1cb6) is preserved, with its worktree and evidence. Nothing is deleted. Its version metadata must never be merged into main.

What was unique to this branch, and what owns it now:
