API - DEEP Learning

Introduction

APIs are a key part of any web application. In this lesson, you'll learn about the basics of APIs and how it relates to express js.

What is an API?

An API , short for Application Programming Interface , is like a waiter in a restaurant. It acts as a middleman between a customer (user) and the kitchen (application) . The customer places an order with the waiter , who then communicates the order to the chef , ensuring that the customer gets the desired dish . Similarly, in software, an API allows one application to request and exchange data with another, facilitating seamless communication.

Understanding API Endpoints

API endpoints are like the entry points or addresses of an API. They serve as the specific URLs that users can use to interact with the API's functionality. You can think of API endpoints as similar to items on a menu.

Menu sample

In the web, an API endpoint is typically what follows after the domain. Take a look at the example below:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ

The domain is www.youtube.com, and in this example, the API endpoint is /watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ.
