shader: allow UBREV on uniform registers above UR15 - #710
Only one condition fails: the case requires both the destination and the source below 16, and the source here is UR17. uniform_register at the top of the file documents UR0-UR21 living in R216-R237, and this emit is dest + 216, so UR16 and UR17 do have registers.
None of those has a lowering yet, so the gameplay scene stays black. This PR is worth taking because the reading is trivial and auditable: the bound contradicts the register map the same function uses, and removing it changes no other path.
I would rather send these one at a time with the log of each than one large change that claims to fix tessellation.
Summary by CodeRabbit
Bug Fixes
Improved compatibility with games that use advanced shader operations, including register-heavy instructions, texture arrays, and additional bit-manipulation and comparison operations.
Corrected transform-feedback output offsets for vector components.
Improved synchronization of deferred Vulkan work during forced waits.
Prevented shader control-flow changes in cases where combining demote instructions could affect behavior.
Added an environment-variable option to disable transform feedback.
Two guards in the Ampere to Maxwell path rejected shapes that appear in
Ocarina of Time's in-game geometry, and each rejection discards the program so
the draw is skipped for the rest of the session.
ISETP: the extended path refused any instruction whose bits 87-90 were not all
ones, which is the predicate/negate pair for the final compare. The single
compare path in the same file copies that pair straight to Maxwell bits 39 and
42, which are pred and neg_pred, so the layout is known and the extended path
only lacked somewhere to put it. It now feeds the pair into the second compare
instead of dropping it.
TLD4: the gather path only accepted dimension 1, which is 2D, and refused 5,
which is 2D array. Array gathers now place the layer in R252 and use Maxwell's
dimension code 3. Array with offsets is still refused.
Measured on 0400486024DEC000, RX 5700, amdvlk, Windows: before, past the intro
the 3D scene went black with only dialogue text visible, with 71 of 92 graphics
rejections being the ISETP shape. After, the scene renders in game at 31 FPS
with correct textures, a client area capture of 1.0 to 2.5 MB where a black
scene gives about 20 KB, and no rejection of either kind in the measured run.
…a TFB kill switch
The output variable for a varying that starts inside a vector is decorated with
Component, but it received the Offset of the start of that vector, so the guest
read back the wrong bytes and the GPU fence for the frame never advanced
(Ocarina of Time freezes at present 20316 with 'Unaligned TFB 46/89/210').
EDEN_NX2_NO_TFB disables transform feedback for A/B: with it the same run reaches
36000 frames instead of freezing at 20316, which is how the cause was isolated.
Ocarina of Time rejects the vertex program 0x115bab3c00 at instruction 0x790
with 'native funnel-shift mode':
[op 819 0e0e7819 00000015 00001211 020fe200]
73-74=1 75=0 76=1 80=0 shift=21 low=14 high=17
The case already covers the left funnel with two words and the right shift with
a zero high word. The gap is a right funnel with both words real, which is the
mirror of the left form:
emit(base(0x3828...) | low << 8 | high << 39 | shift << 20)
Measured on RX 5700, Windows, AMD proprietary 2.0.353, clean cache: the
rejection disappears, no crash and no device loss across 10,000 frames, and the
draws bound to that program stop being skipped (26 skipped to 18).
What comes next is a tessellation program rejected at stage 3, so this does not
make the gameplay scene render by itself.
Ocarina of Time's tessellation programs (stage 3) reject at 0x250, 0x260 and
0x2d0 with 'native uniform shift mode':
[op 899 06087899 00000018 08001207 004fe400]
words[2] = 0x08001200 | high, low != 63, shift 24
The case accepts 0x0800163f and 0x08011600|high, which are the same shift with
the other word reading URZ. With both words real the instruction is a funnel, so
it lowers like the left funnel in the non-uniform case: destination the low
word, high word in Rc.
Measured, RX 5700, Windows, AMD proprietary 2.0.353, 11,400 frames: the
rejection is gone, no crash, no device loss. The same programs then reject on
other instructions that are not lowered yet (uniform bit reverse, register
shift, uniform select), so the scene still does not render.
Ocarina of Time's tessellation programs reject at 0x3c0 with 'native uniform bit
reverse mode':
[op 2be 000472be 00000011 08000000 000fc800]
dest 4, source UR17, words[2] 0x08000000, predicate 7
Only the source bound fails: the case requires both registers below 16, while
UR0-UR21 live in R216-R237 according to uniform_register just above. The emit is
dest + 216, so UR16 and UR17 have registers.
Measured: the rejection is gone and nothing crashes, 12,000 frames. The same
programs then reject on 0x3e0 and 0xb70 (unsupported opcodes), 0xa70 (uniform
select) and 0xbc0 (register shift), so this is one more link in the chain.
Absolute and relative shuffles use a shared fallback decision. It considers the broken-shuffle profile flag and a Fragment-stage environment-variable setting.

Deferred fence work
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Submit deferred work before waiting src/video_core/fence_manager.h, src/video_core/renderer_vulkan/vk_fence_manager.h, src/video_core/renderer_vulkan/vk_fence_manager.cpp
The generic fence manager calls a hook before blocking on a forced wait. The Vulkan implementation flushes deferred scheduler work in that hook.
This PR adds shader lowering and fence handling with several verified defects: wrongly encoded funnel shifts, an incorrect extended-comparison result, transform-feedback offset errors, and a possible scheduler race when fences are forced. Affected shaders may fail to translate or render incorrectly, and the fence race could crash. Fix these before merging.
Security architecture risk: Moderate · up to e64b8
A new graphics wait path can submit pending work from outside its owning thread while that thread may also submit it. This creates a plausible command-state corruption or application-hang risk. The inspected shader changes retain input and register bounds.
Retained concerns
Medium · security · inferred: The new pre-wait hook permits a split-front semaphore acquire to call FlushDeferred directly while the back thread can independently call the same method through its idle hook. Drain waits for command consumption but does not transfer exclusive scheduler ownership. Both callers can therefore observe pending work and enter Flush against shared recording state without common serialization, potentially corrupting command state or hanging the emulator. The base already allowed non-stubbed front fences to flush; this PR adds exposure even when the newly signaled fence is stubbed or skipped. The adverse outcome is inferred from the concurrency path, not runtime-reproduced.
Security review details
Security Blast Radius
inferred — The supported attack surface is a guest command stream reaching shared host graphics-submission state in the same emulator process. Potential consequences include corrupted recording state or loss of availability for that session. The inspected path does not establish cross-tenant access, credential authority, or escape from the host process.
Security Findings and Attack Paths
inferred — A guest semaphore acquire can drain queued back-thread commands and then force a fence wait on the front. If earlier work remains deferred and the new fence does not itself flush, the added hook can overlap the back's idle flush. This is the PR-specific concurrency concern; scheduling-dependent corruption remains unverified.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
observed — The existing non-owner fence-wait path requests submission from the back through WaitSubmitted rather than directly recording commands. The new hook bypasses that protocol. The work-queue mutex protects queue insertion, not the entire Flush transition or shared recording state; the pending flag is an ordinary bool.
Resilience and Maintainability Implications
observed — The callback-only forced wait and worker-side submission-error handling predate this PR. The inspected source does not establish cancellation or failed-submission recovery for an already queued wait. This remains an evidence limitation, not a separately established PR regression.
Hardening Proposals
proposed — Keep direct deferred submission on the recording owner. Non-owner forced waits should request owner-side submission and await the relevant tick through an explicit protocol. Making only the pending flag atomic would not protect the full command-recording transition.

Split uncaptured components before the next XFB entry.
If a layout captures only Generic0.yz, the empty X entry consumes all four components, so the Y entry is not captured. When emitting that entry, use its stored byte offset: the producer already includes its buffer position. This path can continue when use_debug_asserts is disabled.

If Generic0.x and Generic0.y use separate buffers with stride 4 and offset 0, the y decoration becomes offset 4. When execution continues past the unaligned-varying assertion, this places y beyond its vertex’s reserved storage.

0x3828 decodes as SHR_imm, not SHF_r_imm. It treats the high register index as flags instead of reading the high word. For example, uniform source UR0 sets SHR.XMODE, which causes translation to fail. The non-uniform branch has the same opcode error.
Use SHF_r_imm with the correct mode and result selection for each accepted form. Reject forms that cannot be lowered correctly.

Combine the accumulator with the extended comparison.
Bits 87–90 encode the accumulator, not a destination. For .LT.EX.AND, a false accumulator must make the result false. The final Maxwell instruction instead ORs it with the high-word comparison, which can produce true.
Combine the accumulator with the completed comparison, or reject forms that cannot be lowered correctly.

Keep deferred submission on the back thread.
A semaphore acquire can call ReleaseFences() on the front after DrainBack(). The drain does not exclude the back’s idle hook. The new FlushDeferred() call can therefore race with the idle hook on flush_pending and scheduler submission state. This can corrupt command submission or crash.

Closing this: the base changed the case in a way that makes this unnecessary. 0x2be now takes the source from Bits(32, 8) through uniform_register, so UR16 and UR17 are accepted without touching the bound at all, which is cleaner than widening 16 to 22.
…top reporting (Eglantine-Community#710) (Eglantine-Community#712)
* input_common: compare motion mapping input with its first value
Mapping a motion input ("Shake!") registers a device only when two consecutive
reports differ by more than 1.5 g or 0.6 rotations/s. SDL3 delivers every
sensor sample, so a controller reporting every 4 ms (the Steam Controller at
~250 Hz) never changes that much between two reports and could not be mapped
through the UI.
Compare each report with the first one received since mapping began instead,
so a quick turn or shake crosses the thresholds at any report rate. The
baselines are cleared when mapping begins and ends.

* input_common/sdl: restart motion sensors that stop reporting
The SDL driver restarts a sensor only when its reports are all zero. A Steam
Controller (2026, SDL's Triton driver) through its wireless dongle stops
sending sensor reports altogether after it reconnects or when Steam Input,
running at the same time, changes its IMU mode; SDL turns the IMU on only
once, so motion stayed dead until the emulator restarted, and the motion
mapping dialog had nothing to detect either.
Track when each controller last reported a sensor sample and, from
PumpEvents (every 250 ms), restart the sensors of a connected controller with
motion that has been silent for a second, backing off to 8 s while it stays
silent.

Third link in the tessellation chain, after #705 and #709.
The rejection
Only one condition fails: the case requires both the destination and the source below 16, and the source here is UR17.
uniform_registerat the top of the file documents UR0-UR21 living in R216-R237, and this emit isdest + 216, so UR16 and UR17 do have registers. The change
Measured, RX 5700, Windows, AMD proprietary 2.0.353, clean cache, 12,000 frames
The chain, so the next person does not have to rediscover it
Accepting one instruction makes the same eight stage 3 programs reject on the next one. After this change they are:
None of those has a lowering yet, so the gameplay scene stays black. This PR is worth taking because the reading is trivial and auditable: the bound contradicts the register map the same function uses, and removing it changes no other path.
I would rather send these one at a time with the log of each than one large change that claims to fix tessellation.
