dynarmic x64: lock-free exclusive monitor fast path (ordering-sealed) - #717
The Dynarmic global monitor's cross-core exclusive accesses were the whole of this title's CPU-side slowdown (bisection: cpuopt_unsafe_ignore_global_monitor recovered the FPS but with system-wide visual corruption — the races it opens are the corruption; CpuAccuracy::Auto silently enables it too). This replaces the locking with a lock-free scheme sealed by ordering instead:
LDXR emits the guest load before publishing the reservation. The order replaces the lock: a cross-core store either lands in the snapshot (our CAS fails — a legal spurious failure) or is strictly before the reservation (success is hardware-legitimate).
STXR is lockless, with an atomic per-slot lock cmpxchg clear (EmitExclusiveTestAndClear).
An earlier variant that published the reservation before the load flickered system-wide: the window let another core's store land between publish and load, so the reader snapshotted the other core's result while its reservation survived — a spurious-success double-claim. That failure mode is also exactly what Unsafe_IgnoreGlobalMonitor opens; the ordering seal closes it.
Why now
Originally held back on a local-only basis until the gamma-flicker root cause was understood (the same race-class symptoms): that root cause is now measured and fixed in #712 — the delayed-fence flip-counter ring deadlocks — and the flicker's residual face is tracked upstream (#589).
Measurement
Ocarina of Time vistas: monitor-respecting FPS at the level of the ignored-monitor configuration, without its corruption. The monitor's locking previously serialized the emulated cores on every exclusive pair.
Improved the handling of exclusive memory reads and writes across processor cores, helping ensure reservation checks remain accurate when operations occur concurrently.
Every exclusive load/store pair took the global monitor spinlock in JIT
code, serializing all cores' exclusives; a title that leans on cross-core
LL/SC (Ocarina of Time) paid its whole CPU-side frame budget in that convoy
(its cpuopt_unsafe_ignore_global_monitor flips the lock off entirely and
buys the same FPS at the cost of system-wide gamma/foliage flicker).
Fast path: the exclusive read emits its guest load BEFORE publishing its
reservation, so a store from another core is either inside the snapshot
(its own compare fails: the legal spurious-failure outcome) or strictly
before the reservation (success is hardware-legitimate); the store path is
lockless with an atomic per-slot LOCK CMPXCHG clear. Measured: large FPS
gain with monitor semantics respected.
Known remaining: the title's gamma bistability (present in fully serialized
configs all day at low frequency) amplifies under any concurrency — root
cause tracked as the fence/syncpoint-dependent tonemap parameter delivery,
not the monitor.

The x64 exclusive read path now publishes reservation state after loading guest memory. The exclusive write path removes global-monitor lock operations and uses LOCK CMPXCHG to clear a matching reservation.
Changes: X64 exclusive reservations
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Publish reservations after exclusive reads src/dynarmic/src/dynarmic/backend/x64/emit_x64_memory.cpp.inc
The inline exclusive read path loads guest memory before writing the core's reservation state, value, and address.
Clear reservations during exclusive writes src/dynarmic/src/dynarmic/backend/x64/emit_x64_memory.h, src/dynarmic/src/dynarmic/backend/x64/emit_x64_memory.cpp.inc
The write path removes global-monitor lock operations. EmitExclusiveTestAndClear now uses LOCK CMPXCHG to clear a reservation only when its address matches vaddr; the call site passes rax as an additional register.
Contending exclusive stores can both report success, breaking cross-core synchronization. Fix the reservation protocol before merging.

Before / after behavior
observed — Modified behavior in src/dynarmic/src/dynarmic/backend/x64/emit_x64_memory.cpp.inc: The inline exclusive read path removes the prior global-monitor lock and reservation publication before the guest load. The replacement comments describe ordering the load before publishing this core’s reservation.
observed — Modified behavior in src/dynarmic/src/dynarmic/backend/x64/emit_x64_memory.cpp.inc: The reservation state, value, and address are now written after the fastmem or fallback guest load; the previous EmitExclusiveUnlock call is removed from this setup.
observed — Modified behavior in src/dynarmic/src/dynarmic/backend/x64/emit_x64_memory.cpp.inc: The prior global-monitor lock acquisition is removed from inline exclusive writes; the replacement comments describe the lock-free path and same-address contention handling.
observed — Modified behavior in src/dynarmic/src/dynarmic/backend/x64/emit_x64_memory.cpp.inc: EmitExclusiveTestAndClear now receives rax as an additional argument.

Two inline stores can both pass their reservation checks before either clears the other’s reservation. If both write the existing value, both guest compare-exchanges can succeed. The same failure can occur between an inline store and a callback store.
Synchronize reservation validation through the guest write across both paths.
