This is the central data repository for Project Nepal — a 100% citizen-led, non-profit, open-source repository aimed at tracking verifiable public facts about projects, budgets, problems, and leaders across Nepal's 7 provinces, 77 districts, and ~6,743 wards.
Our architecture avoids scale limitations and complies strictly with GitHub's Terms of Service regarding automation and excessive API use. This is a completely manual, human-driven effort.
Data is structured exactly reflecting the geographical hierarchy:
/data/hierarchy/: Static, verified configurations of districts & wards./data/content/: Live tracking (Leaders, Projects, Budgets, Problems) mapped to their geographical locations.
This repository operates on a Public-Read, Verified-Write model. While the data is 100% public for anyone to view and use, GitHub Issues and Pull Requests are heavily restricted to prevent spam and automation abuse. Only manually verified maintainers and collaborators are granted permission to interact, open issues, or submit PRs.
- All verified developers must first read our Developer Guide. This guide contains our exact JSON validation templates, repository scaling guidelines (handling 1GB+ limits), and strict PR review rules.
- Please read our Contribution Guidelines to understand the strict source-citation requirements and how our verification process works.
- See the Architecture Guide for how the JSON files are organized.
- Only verifiable facts. NO spam, unverified news, or subjective opinions.
- Every data point MUST contain an official or verified source link (RTI, gov.np, budget docs).
- Strict Data Privacy: We track public governance, never private citizens. All contributors must adhere to our Privacy & Ethics Policy.
- Grow slowly and steadily. No bulk script injections or automation. Quality > Speed.
- Interactive Geospatial Tracker: A completely custom SVG map of Nepal featuring real-time, mathematically accurate map-pinning. Track civic problems and localized projects visually across exact district boundaries.
- Hot-Topic Surveillance: Specialized dashboards (e.g., Kathmandu Air Quality, Dharahara Reconstruction) to monitor critical localized civic issues with high priority.
- Universal Contributor Verification: A robust tagging engine that visually connects verified public contributors natively within tracking items to encourage crowd-sourced accountability.
