Visitors previously landed in a file listing without a README. The new introduction explains mutual credit, the service's relationship to GrowOperative, and the actual pure Ruby/Rails/PostgreSQL boundaries. It includes a worked balance example, source links, current authentication defaults, and Docker development/test instructions. Planned ports and modules are distinguished from implemented behavior.

Closes #13.

Validation:

• Factual review against current controllers, services, protocol code, configuration and existing specs.
• The Ruby example executes and returns -25.0 balance and 75.0 remaining capacity.
• All relative links exist; all external links returned HTTP 200.
• GitHub-rendered Markdown visually reviewed; whitespace checks passed.
• Existing RSpec CI passed: 75 examples, 0 failures. Docker commands were checked against Compose and CI configuration, not exercised as a complete local startup.

Only README.md changes. Merging will trigger the repository's existing demo deployment after main CI succeeds. No production deployment is requested.
