emitOutcome — say what a task produced, on the agent key - #80
Conversation
The agent-side half of P3.1. `emitOutcome` posts a billable outcome claim against the task id the caller already has; Floe resolves that id to the call and binds the claim there, so cost and outcome sit on one row. Deliberately NOT a sibling of `reportOutcome`'s vocabulary. That is the per-action quality signal and never reaches an invoice; this is the invoice-grade claim. They share a word and nothing else. An agent key may only REPORT. There is no `status` argument: confirming a claim, voiding one and resolving a collision are operator acts on the developer surface, because they move money and the evidence justifying them reaches the operator's backend minutes to days after the call, never this process. Local validation first, matching the file's existing posture — a bad argument is a FloeAgentError, not a round trip. The idempotency key is capped at the server's 200 rather than at MAX_TAG_LENGTH: rejecting a key the API would have accepted is a client bug, not strictness.

…locally Review round on #80. The guard checked only `typeof === "string"`, so "not-a-date" passed and was POSTed — a 400 the SDK could have named itself, which is the round trip this method's local-validation posture exists to avoid. Mirrors the route exactly rather than approximating it. The API declares occurredAt as z.string().datetime(): RFC-3339 with a Z, so neither "2026-09-15" nor a +01:00 offset is accepted there. A bare Date.parse check would have been LOOSER than the server and still let a 400 through, so the guard pairs the shape with a parse — "2026-13-45T00:00:00Z" matches the pattern and is not an instant. Two tests: four rejected forms asserting fetch is never called, and a well-formed value asserted to go out verbatim. Mutation-proven — reverting to the typeof-only guard turns the rejection case red. The same fix lands in agentkit-actions-py to keep TS/Py parity, and in the MCP server's emit_outcome schema.

The agent-side half of P3.1, next to
reportOutcomewhere an agent already closes the loop on a task.What it does
Floe resolves the task id to the call it belongs to and binds the claim there, so cost and outcome sit on one row. That is what makes cost-per-outcome a number rather than an estimate.
What it is not
Not a sibling of
reportOutcome's vocabulary. That is FLO-633's per-action quality signal feeding the quality throttle, and it never reaches an invoice. This is the invoice-grade claim. The two share a word and nothing else, which is why they are separate methods with separate types rather than an overload.An agent key may only report
There is deliberately no
statusargument. Confirming a claim, voiding one and resolving a collision are operator acts on the developer-scoped surface: they move money, and the evidence that justifies them — a CRM webhook, a calendar invitation — reaches the operator's backend minutes to days after the call, never the agent's process. Offering the field here would invite a 400 the type system should have prevented.confirmedAtis likewise absent from the emission type and always null in the response: emitting never sets the billing anchor.Validation is local first
Matching this file's existing posture — a bad argument is a
FloeAgentError, not a round trip. One deviation worth naming: the idempotency key is capped at the server's 200 rather than atMAX_TAG_LENGTH(128). It is not an attribution tag, and rejecting a key the API would have accepted is a bug in the client, not strictness.externalRefwithoutexternalSystemfails locally too. The server has a CHECK constraint saying the same thing, but failing here names the actual mistake instead of returning a constraint message.Tests
6 new cases, 18 passing in the file, typecheck clean. They pin the wire contract (omitted optionals are absent, not null — the route is
.strict()), the evidence allowlist going out verbatim, the local guards short-circuiting before any fetch, and a refused task id surfacing as a typed error carryingtask_not_found.Requires the API side (floe-monorepo #502);
POST /v1/agents/outcomes404s until that ships.The Python mirror is Floe-Labs/agentkit-actions-py — parity between the two SDKs is an advertised property, so they land together.
