honestly i find this hard to review but i suspect it's an improvement
1. race in updating races (lol). i dont think this was likely to ever happen but it's cool 2. sanitization of qualifier URLs to prevent code injection stuff 3. correct join for looking up seasons by BRI (also unlikely to have ever been a problem)
