In progress, depends on #61.
Replaces all the invariant generics with properly variant generics, removing a lot of unchecked casts and introducing the ability to share structure components in certain ways.
Will probably need adaptation of some of the depending mods, and #61 is stuck on the javadoc generator anyways.
