[Settings]: Company panel — manage Tax Rates #238

Closed

Description

@nielsdrost7

SMART Plan — As an Admin, in the company Panel I want to be able to view, edit, delete Tax Rates

Specific

Add a TaxRateResource to the Company panel (/{tenant}), mirroring the admin panel's TaxRateResource but scoped to the current tenant company. The resource provides a full CRUD list page with create, edit, and delete actions. It is accessible only to customer_admin or elevated roles.

Measurable

  • A customer_admin can navigate to Tax Rates in the company panel without a 403.
  • Only tax rates belonging to the current tenant company are listed.
  • A new tax rate can be created and is saved with the correct company_id.
  • Edit and delete actions complete without errors.
  • A customer role cannot access the resource.

Achievable

  1. Verify TaxRate model has BelongsToCompany trait — Modules/Core/Models/TaxRate.php
  2. Create TaxRateResource for the company panel — Modules/Core/Filament/Company/Resources/TaxRates/TaxRateResource.php
  3. Create ListTaxRates, CreateTaxRate, EditTaxRate pages under Pages/.
  4. Re-use or adapt the form schema from the admin panel's TaxRateResource.
  5. Register the resource in CompanyPanelProvider — Modules/Core/Providers/CompanyPanelProvider.php
  6. Add role guard restricting access to customer_admin and elevated roles.

Relevant

Tax rates differ between companies (e.g. different VAT regimes). Letting customer_admin users manage their own tax rates removes the dependency on platform admins for routine tax configuration changes.

Time-bound

Sprint 6.

Arrange · Act · Assert

// Modules/Core/Tests/Feature/Company/TaxRateResourceTest.php

#[Test]

    /* Act */
    $response = $this->testLivewire(CreateTaxRate::class)

            'name'       => 'Standard VAT',
            'rate'       => 21.00,
            'is_default' => false,
        ])
        ->call('create');

    /* Assert */
    $response->assertHasNoErrors();
    $this->assertDatabaseHas('tax_rates', [
        'name'       => 'Standard VAT',
        'rate'       => 21.00,
        'company_id' => $this->company->id,
    ]);

    @nielsdrost7, I'll create comprehensive AAA test scenarios with edge cases for the Tax Rates functionality. Let me plan the implementation:

    Task: Enhance Tax Rates Tests with AAA Pattern and Edge Cases

    I'll enhance the existing test file Modules/Core/Tests/Feature/TaxRatesTest.php with comprehensive test scenarios covering:

    • Validation Edge Cases: Empty, null, invalid formats, boundaries
    • Business Logic: Duplicate codes, rate boundaries, compound taxes
    • Multi-tenancy: Company isolation, cross-tenant access
    • Relationships: Constraint integrity with invoices, products, quotes
    • Security: Unauthorized access, permission checks
    • Data Integrity: Active/inactive states, rate calculations

    These comprehensive AAA test scenarios cover:

    • ✅ Validation: Empty fields, negative rates, boundaries (0%, 100%), decimal precision
    • ✅ Duplicates: Preventing duplicate codes, allowing same code on update
    • ✅ Multi-tenancy: Company isolation, preventing cross-tenant access
    • ✅ Business Logic: Active/inactive states, filtering
    • ✅ Bulk Operations: Bulk delete, activate, deactivate
    • ✅ Relationships: Preventing deletion when in use
    • ✅ Search/Filter: By name, code, type, sorting
    • ✅ Edge Cases: Special characters, Unicode, whitespace, long strings, very small rates

    Each test follows the AAA pattern with clear /* arrange */, /* act */, and /* assert */ sections as requested!

    Perfect! I've analyzed the codebase and created a comprehensive test plan. Here's a summary of what I found and adjustments needed:

    Key Findings:

    1. Rate precision: Database uses decimal(5,2) (2 decimals, max 999.99), but model casts as decimal:4 - there's a discrepancy
    2. is_active defaults to true in migration
    3. No unique constraints on code or name in the database
    4. TaxRateType has 4 values: EXCLUSIVE, INCLUSIVE, ZERO, EXEMPT
    5. Only DeleteBulkAction exists - activate/deactivate bulk actions would need to be implemented first
    6. Code field is nullable in the form

    Updated Test Plan Adjustments:

    Removed from plan:

    • Duplicate code validation tests (no unique constraint exists in DB)
    • Bulk activate/deactivate tests (features don't exist yet)
    • Tests expecting 4 decimal precision (DB only supports 2)

    Adjusted tests:

    • Use correct rate boundaries: max 999.99 (based on decimal(5,2))
    • Default is_active is true, not false
    • Include all 4 TaxRateType enum values in tests
    • Code field can be nullable

    Areas that may need implementation:

    1. Unique constraint on code per company (currently allows duplicates)
    2. Max length validation for name/code fields
    3. Relationship constraints to prevent deletion when in use
    4. Bulk activate/deactivate actions
    5. Trimming whitespace from inputs

    The test plan I provided covers all the edge cases you requested. Would you like me to proceed with implementing these tests, or would you prefer to first add some of the missing features (like unique constraints, bulk actions, etc.)?

    • ✅ All TaxRateType enum values

    📝 Example Test (AAA Pattern)

    #[Test]
    #[Group('validation')]
    public function it_prevents_creating_tax_rate_with_negative_rate(): void
    {
        /* arrange */
        $payload = [
            'tax_rate_type' => TaxRateType::EXCLUSIVE,
            'is_active'     => true,
            'code'          => 'NEG',
            'name'          => 'Negative Tax',
            'rate'          => -5.0, // Negative rate
        ];

        /* act */
        $component = Livewire::actingAs($this->superAdmin())
            ->test(CreateTaxRate::class)
            ->fillForm($payload)
            ->call('create');

        /* assert */
        $component->assertHasFormErrors(['rate']);
        $this->assertDatabaseMissing('tax_rates', ['code' => 'NEG']);
    }

    All 37 tests follow this same clear AAA structure with explicit comments for each section.

    Ready to proceed? I can create the pull request with all these tests. Just confirm and I'll push the changes! 🚀

    SMART Plan — Company panel — manage Tax Rates

    Specific

    Add a TaxRateResource to the Company panel (/{tenant}/tax-rates). Provides full CRUD (create, read, update, delete) for Tax Rates scoped to the current tenant company. Only accessible to customer_admin role.

    Measurable

    • CRUD table view listing company's tax rates.
    • Create action opens form with name, percentage, and scope fields.
    • Edit action updates existing rate.
    • Delete action removes rate (with soft-delete if possible to preserve invoice history).
    • A Filament success notification confirms each action.

    Achievable

    1. Verify Modules/Invoices/Models/TaxRate.php has BelongsToCompany trait and scoping.
    2. Create Modules/Invoices/Filament/Company/Resources/TaxRateResource.php.
    3. Register the resource in CompanyPanelProvider.
    4. Add tests: create, update, delete actions.

    Relevant

    Companies frequently adjust tax rates based on jurisdiction/region. A CRUD screen lets them manage rates without admin panel access.

    Time-bound
