🔥 The Roast: This line is fine — the bump itself is textbook Dependabot, nothing to burn here. The problem is the comment you left behind in the other file: .github/workflows/build-and-test.yaml:96 still announces python:3.14.7-slim as the current base, and it now points at a tag that no longer exists anywhere in the repo. This repo has a whole guard test (tests/unittest/test_ci_python_version_coverage.py) dedicated to keeping Python versions honest across files, and the one place a human actually reads the version got left behind by the bump. The argument in that comment still holds (it only depends on the 3.14 minor, so the guard test still passes — nice), but the string is now a small lie, and the next person to grep 3.14.7 finds a version that doesn't exist. I've seen stale version comments outlive three major releases. They never die. They just get cited as fact.

🩹 The Fix: Update the reference in .github/workflows/build-and-test.yaml to python:3.14.8-slim. Better yet, since a floating minor is what the CI guard actually asserts, reword the comment to say the base is on the 3.14 line and drop the patch entirely — then the next Dependabot patch bump can't rot it again. (No suggestion block here on purpose: the line to change lives in another file.)

File Line Roast
docker/Dockerfile 1 Base image moved to 3.14.8-slim, but the CI workflow comment still quotes python:3.14.7-slim — a version that no longer exists in the repo

Scope note: the diff is a single one-line base-image patch bump (3.14.7-slim → 3.14.8-slim). I also cross-checked the things a version bump can silently break: pyproject.toml requires-python = ">=3.12" (satisfied), docker/Dockerfile.lambda (floats on the 3.14 minor, still in sync), the native CI matrix (3.12/3.13/3.14, unaffected by a patch bump), and tests/unittest/test_ci_python_version_coverage.py, whose guard asserts the minor only — so it still passes unchanged. No other file in the repo pins the 3.14.7 patch.

🏆 Best part: The Lambda Dockerfile deliberately floats on the minor with a comment explaining why (AWS publishes no CPython patch tags), and there's a dedicated CI guard test keeping the two bases pinned together. Oh wait, this repo actually has the version hygiene this PR's one stale comment doesn't. I need to sit down.

💀 Worst part: The single remaining python:3.14.7-slim string, sitting in a CI comment, describing a tag this PR just deleted from the world. Stale version comments don't age gracefully — they become folklore, and next quarter someone will cite it as the reason for a decision.

📊 Overall: Like bumping the patch version on a very well-maintained car — the engine is fine, the guards all pass, and the only thing broken is the sticker on the bumper that still shows the old model year.
