What changed

  • replaces the old presentation with a concise, source-backed explanation of Buzz and this independent fork
  • documents Preview Studio's real production path, renderer demonstrations, limitations, architecture, and user workflows
  • adds five deterministic, privacy-safe screenshots covering agent chat, desktop and mobile web preview, deck review, and film review
  • adds a complete fork patch ledger, claim ledger, QA evidence, screenshot provenance, known issues, and release gates
  • adds a weekly/manual stable Buzz Desktop release detector that prepares a reviewed integration PR without auto-merging
  • guards inherited Block publishing workflows so this fork cannot publish Block container or release artifacts
  • carries official Buzz's narrow RUSTSEC-2026-0243 exception until Mesh-LLM migrates to nostr-sdk 0.45 or newer

Why

The previous README and showcase did not meet the standard required for a public open-source fork. Some screenshots did not accurately demonstrate responsive behavior, documentation mixed implemented and proposed behavior, and inherited publication automation needed fork-specific safety boundaries.

User and maintainer impact

Users get an honest product overview, working source setup, real mobile-responsive evidence, and documentation that distinguishes shipped behavior from deterministic demonstrations and future protocol proposals. Maintainers get an auditable fork boundary and a safe, review-only upstream release workflow.

No Buzz chat or community data is included or modified. The showcase uses deterministic fixtures.

Validation

Exact pre-evidence candidate 4e2e785d39126e064f67483f4f2ec95e92dd95f6 passed:

  • . ./bin/activate-hermit && just ci
  • 4,556 desktop tests across 69 suites
  • 2,272 Tauri library tests, plus CSP, media, and terminal suites
  • 1,261 mobile tests
  • desktop, web, Tauri, Rust, and mobile checks/builds
  • public documentation audit: 76 Markdown files and 142 local links
  • upstream desktop sync and fork publishing-guard contracts
  • deterministic showcase 2/2, with five distinct pinned screenshot hashes

Head 46c96b6fa53cbfab41a8c54ccf3e5a7bfd1d57a1 additionally passed focused and complete cargo-deny checks after porting the exact advisory exception from official Buzz commit d2ebaa95.

Packaging, signing, provider-backed generation, and live deployment remain explicitly unverified.
