Summary

Gives the player a goal on foot that follows the city's AI: you are the GridFall Gazette's stringer. Every AI decision with a place is a lead. You go to the scene, get a quote, maybe take a press photo, and file the story. The Gazette runs it in the chat, and your points climb the press ranks. A new mayors' league ranks the five AI mayors, each with the model it runs on.

What you can do

  • K (no story on assignment): take the newest lead. A card shows what happened, where and how far, the scoop clock and a checklist, and the GPS leads you to the far sidewalk across the scene's street.
  • At the scene (within 3 tiles): a reply from someone you talk to face to face, or the answer to "Ask someone here", becomes your quote (12 characters or more, clipped to 140). A resident of the deciding mayor's district is a local voice, and a passer-by never replaces one.
  • Photo mode (P): a click from within 4 tiles (80 m), with the scene inside the central 65% of the view, is a sharp shot. The hero must have stood at the scene when the camera came up.
  • K (with a quote): file the story. 100 points, +50 for a scoop (filed within a third of a day), +25 for a local voice and +25 for a sharp shot. The ranks are Stringer, Reporter at 300, Senior reporter at 1000 and Star reporter at 2500. The resident quoted remembers it.
  • L: the mayors' league. The five mayors ranked on people, jobs, approval (what the district's residents think of their mayor) and funds, 25 points each, with their model's badge. Then your press card, the story on assignment, the open leads (Chase on any of them) and your latest stories.
  • A lead goes cold a sim day after it happened, and at most 4 are open.

Implementation

  • scripts/fp/reporter/reporter_feature.gd: the new integration feature reporter (flag on by default). It handles assignments, the quote from talk_replied, the photo check, filing, points and ranks, and the save state (points, stories filed and the first-lead tip; leads and the assignment belong to the city on screen and are dropped on load and New City).
  • reporter_desk.gd turns mayor_decided (focus tile and the first order carried out), council rulings that changed an ordinance (at City Hall) and Chaos Director strikes into leads.
  • reporter_card.gd is the HUD card above the district caption, reporter_viewfinder.gd draws the photo-mode marks, and reporter_league.gd is the league panel (modal league).
  • GameBus: talk_replied(resident_id, speaker, reply), emitted by chat (talk_dialog.gd face to face, chat_feature.gd for "Ask someone here"), and story_filed(story). Chat runs a filed story as a Gazette line with its own author id and queues its headline as a chatter topic.
  • Inputs: press_story (K) and press_league (L). Only this block of project.godot is in the commit.
  • The pause menu's key legend lists K and L.

Tests

  • fp_reporter_test (new, 129 checks): leads from mayor turns, council rulings and strikes, the cap and going cold; taking and chasing leads, the waypoint and the card; quotes (length, scene range, local voice, passer-by never replacing a local); the viewfinder rules; filing, points, bonuses and ranks; the league ranking and panel; inputs and modals; save and load; teardown.
  • fp_core_test: feature count 17. fp_actions_test uses the input-event helpers that moved to fp_kit.gd.

Docs

README controls, the pause-menu key legend, docs/fp/ARCHITECTURE.md (new "Integration: reporter" row), docs/fp/S0-foundation.md §9 (the two signals), and regenerated API docs (docs/api/scripts.fp.reporter.md).

Validation

  • tools/gate.sh full: PASS (39 steps: parse, 36 unit tests, the orbit and first-person smokes), with no retries.
  • tools/gate.sh render --only fp_photo: PASS. The tour adds reporter_story (the hero at the scene with a lead on assignment and a quote on the card), reporter_photo (the press camera up with the viewfinder marks after a sharp shot) and reporter_league (a story filed and the mayors' league open).
  • pre-commit run --all-files and python tools/checks/run_all.py: PASS, no new findings.
  • Every new or touched script passes gdlint, gdformat and the complexity check with no new findings.

…stories, rank the mayors

The player can now work as the GridFall Gazette's stringer. Every AI
decision with a place becomes a lead: a mayor's order, a council ruling
or a Chaos Director strike. K takes the newest on assignment and sets
the GPS to the scene. A reply from someone there is the quote, and a
photo-mode shot with the scene in the viewfinder's marks is a sharp
photo. K files the story: the Gazette runs it in the chat and it earns
points towards the press ranks, with bonuses for a scoop, a local voice
and a sharp shot. L opens the mayors' league: the five mayors ranked on
people, jobs, approval and funds, each with the model it runs on, plus
the press card, open leads and the latest stories.

New integration feature `reporter` (flag on by default) with the desk,
card, viewfinder and league. GameBus gains talk_replied (emitted by chat
for face-to-face replies and "Ask someone here") and story_filed (chat
runs it as a Gazette line). Inputs press_story (K) and press_league (L).
Shared input-event helpers move from fp_actions_test to fp_kit.
