Summary

The twelfth Chinese translation PR (refs #726), the last of the GUI table: the browser frontend's statistics, session history, listening party and remaining settings strings in Simplified Chinese (zh-Hans) and Traditional Chinese with Taiwan wording (zh-Hant). With it, all 510 strings of the GUI table have both translations.

  • src/core/i18n/gui/zh_hans.rs, zh_hant.rs: the remaining 126 strings. That includes 3 that came in on main after the series was drafted: the "Not set" / "Saved" labels of secret settings and the Sources heading.
  • Ranking and session sentences (rank_climbed, gap_detail, …) are translated as whole sentences, so the word order reads naturally instead of joining English fragments.
  • Templates keep their placeholders, so names, room codes, counts and times are shown exactly as given. Quotation marks follow each script's existing entries: “…” in Simplified, 「…」 in Traditional.
  • Tests: assertions that compared a translation to its own table field now compare against the expected Chinese text (connection.test.ts, mainLocalization.test.tsx, src/gui/protocol.rs), and localization.test.tsx checks that the Chinese views no longer render English labels. gui/e2e/localization.shot.ts adds screenshot scenes of the main views in both scripts; its settings fixture carries the button and visualizer fields that SettingRow and SettingsPayload gained since the series was drafted.
  • docs/configuration.md, src/core/i18n/mod.rs: drop the "Chinese tables follow in stacked PRs" notes. The docs keep a line that strings without a translation yet show in English, since a few newer areas (the Soloist playback engine among them) are still untranslated; they come in a follow-up.
  • gui/src/bindings/strings.json is regenerated.

English is unchanged.

Testing

macOS (aarch64), on top of 6e646f4f:

  • cargo fmt --all --check: clean. cargo clippy --locked -- -D warnings: clean on slim (telemetry, tui) and default.

  • cargo test --locked: slim 1804 passed; default plus local-files,subsonic 2413 passed, 21 ignored; the gui feature set with the five sources 2224 passed, 30 ignored.

  • gui/: npm test 551 passed (61 files); npm run typecheck, npm run lint and npm run format:check clean.

  • Playwright scenes (e2e/*.shot.ts): 60 passed in the installed Google Chrome (channel: "chrome"). Firefox and WebKit were not run locally.

Not run: the Linux-only all-sources leg (PipeWire), which CI covers.

Additional notes

A native-speaker review of the wording is welcome; any fix is a one-line change in the table.

Walkthrough

The Simplified and Traditional Chinese GUI catalogs gain translations for settings, listening parties, history, statistics, and related messages. The changes also add browser and unit test coverage for localized content and language updates, and revise the language documentation.

Changes: Chinese GUI Localization

Layer / File(s) Summary
Chinese GUI strings
src/core/i18n/gui/zh_hans.rs, src/core/i18n/gui/zh_hant.rs, docs/configuration.md, src/core/i18n/mod.rs
The Chinese catalogs add GUI labels, controls, status text, formatted messages, and date locales. The configuration documentation now states that untranslated strings display in English.
Browser language updates
gui/e2e/localization.shot.ts
Playwright tests check localized onboarding and language updates on mounted Discover and Settings pages. They also check revision handling, preserved search input, the language-setting action, screenshots, and page errors.
Localization assertions
gui/src/connection.test.ts, gui/src/localization.test.tsx, gui/src/mainLocalization.test.tsx, src/gui/protocol.rs
Tests check literal Chinese labels, ranking and room text, placeholder preservation, localized sort labels, and protocol language responses.

Use an ordered Discover update as the delivery barrier.

The connection unit test would detect removal of the revision guard, but it calls the handler directly. It does not exercise the browser WebSocket-to-mounted-Discover path.

After sending the stale settings message, send a revision-2 Discover message with one shelf title changed. Await that changed shelf title, then assert that the page still uses zh-Hans. WebSocket message ordering ensures the stale message was handled before the shelf update. If the revision guard is removed, the stale English message changes the localization before the sentinel renders, and the localization assertion fails.

# Summary

The last Chinese translation PR (refs #726). It fills the strings that
were still English in the Simplified (`zh-Hans`) and Traditional
(`zh-Hant`) tables, so what stays in English now is only names: Spotify,
YouTube, Qobuz, Subsonic, Apple Music, the Winamp and Outrun screens,
"English" in the language list, and the `quit` command.

- **Soloist playback engine:** its settings rows and buttons, the offer
and pairing popups, and the status messages (`settings/zh_*.rs`,
`popups.rs`, `status_infra.rs`).
- **Key rows and help:** jump to start, jump to end, Listening Party,
and the help row for a setting's button.
- **Two English pieces the tables could not reach, which needed a small
code change.** English output stays as it was:
- The Soloist audio quality choices are now mapped in `option_label`.
The stored value is unchanged.
- The expiry unit comes from Soloist's log as `days`, `hours` or
`minutes`. `soloist_expiry_unit` now translates it, and an unknown unit
stays as logged.
- **Wording:**
  - zh-Hant `choose_sources` now says 來源, like the rest of that table.
- `stopped_following` gets back the clause about your own playback
having the speaker.
- Normal is 标准 / 標準, the word Spotify's Traditional Chinese help page
uses for that tier.
- **Tests:**
- Two assertions in `src/gui/protocol.rs` compared a table with itself
and now compare with the Chinese text.
- `gui/e2e/localization.shot.ts` now sends a later Discover update after
the stale Settings message, waits for it to show, then checks the page
is still `zh-Hans`. This proves the stale message was handled, as
CodeRabbit suggested on #956.
  - Two new tests cover the expiry unit and the quality choices.
- `gui/src/bindings/` is regenerated.

# Testing

macOS (aarch64), on top of `bf9ce8e4`:

- `cargo fmt --all --check`: clean. `cargo clippy -- -D warnings`: clean
on slim (`telemetry, tui`) and default, and with `--locked --features
soloist`, which is what compiles the changed line in
`src/core/app/soloist.rs`.
- `cargo test`: slim 1806 passed; default 2316 passed, 8 ignored;
default plus `soloist` (`--locked`) 2393 passed, 8 ignored; the gui
feature set with the five sources 2226 passed, 30 ignored.
- `gui/`: `npm test` 551 passed (61 files); `npm run typecheck`, `npm
run lint` and `npm run format:check` clean.
- Playwright scenes (`e2e/*.shot.ts`): 60 passed in the installed Google
Chrome (`channel: "chrome"`). Firefox and WebKit were not run locally.

Not run: the Linux-only `all-sources` leg (PipeWire), which CI covers. I
did not run the Soloist engine itself, so the new text has not been seen
on a live Soloist session.

# Additional notes

A native-speaker review of the wording is welcome; any fix is a one-line
change in the table.
