All three fields are optional and no metadata field is exported merely because it exists on a user or request. Treat email, usernames, provider identities, conversation IDs, and model selections as potentially sensitive telemetry; allowlist only fields your Langfuse retention and access policies permit.

### Temporary Chats

[Temporary chats](/docs/features/temporary_chat) are not traced. Their prompts and responses reach no Langfuse destination, central or tenant, and rating one of their replies sends no feedback score. LibreChat deletes a temporary chat when its retention period ends, but it cannot delete a trace once Langfuse has it, so temporary chats stay out by default.

Under `interface.retentionMode: "ephemeral"` every chat is temporary, so the deployment sends no traces at all unless it opts in. To trace temporary chats, set `temporaryChats`:

```yaml filename="librechat.yaml"
langfuse:
trace:
temporaryChats: true
```

The default is `false`. Only an explicit `true` opts in.

## Tenant Fanout (Optional)

Langfuse fanout lets a multi-tenant LibreChat deployment export each eligible trace and its media to both a central Langfuse project and a tenant-specific project. The feature is opt-in and adds a gateway plus an internal OpenTelemetry collector; normal single-project tracing above is unchanged when fanout is not deployed.

**`ephemeral`.** Every chat is temporary. This is "Temporary Chat always on" for the whole deployment.

- Every chat is hidden from history and search, gets no generated title, and is deleted after `temporaryChatRetention` hours. `generalChatRetention` is ignored.
- No chat is traced to Langfuse unless `langfuse.trace.temporaryChats` is `true`. See [Temporary Chats](/docs/configuration/langfuse#temporary-chats) in the Langfuse guide.

- Uploaded files and shared links expire with their chat. Agent resource files are kept only with `retainAgentFiles: true`.
