Shaggoth AI - Android Build & Publishing Guide

This branch contains the Android-specific code and assets for Shaggoth AI.

Building the APK locally

Since this is a React Native (Expo) app with custom native code, you can build it locally using Gradle:

  1. Make sure you have Android Studio and the Android SDK installed.
  2. Open a terminal and navigate to the mobile/android directory:
    cd mobile/android
  3. Run the Gradle assemble command:
    ./gradlew assembleRelease
  4. The generated APK will be located at: mobile/android/app/build/outputs/apk/release/app-release.apk

Publishing to Google Play Console

  1. Generate an App Bundle (.aab) Instead of an APK, Google Play requires an App Bundle (.aab) for smaller download sizes. Run the following command in mobile/android:
    ./gradlew bundleRelease
The .aab file will be generated at app/build/outputs/bundle/release/app-release.aab.
  2. RevenueCat Consumables (Credits)
    • Go to Google Play Console > Monetize > Products > In-app products.
    • Create your Consumable products (e.g., credits_500, credits_1000).
    • Import these products into the RevenueCat dashboard under your Android app.
  3. Upload to Play Console
    • Go to Release > Production (or Internal Testing).
    • Create a new release and upload the app-release.aab file.
    • Enter your release notes and rollout the release!
