We live in a day and age engulfed by the use of social media for communication and entertainment. Being able to reach anyone across the globe with a device that is carried in our pockets has advanced human interactions in ways that were not imaginable 50 years ago. However, there are growing concerns with the use of social media and what that means for our own privacy and security. News of large websites that are perceived often make news headlines by leaking private personal information. Along with the growing concern about companies leaking, it is now easier than ever for people to impersonate someone else with the amount of data in the public space. The aim of this project is to create a new social media platform that is focused on protecting the user's data and information. The project also will stray away from the traditional structure of storing everything on the server, by storing the minimal amount of data on the server minimizes the potential damage from a data leak.
Ming Chen is a third-year student participating in an undergraduate program at The University of Auckland. Fascinated by both modern hardware and software developments, he is excited to present to you his project.
