We have many users who are using strm files for playback with no issues. If you are having problems like laggy playback, please include logs to help diagnose your issue
Moonfin has supported .strm files since 2.3.1. When a .strm points to a URL your device can reach, Moonfin plays that URL directly. Otherwise it streams it through your server. Lots of people are using strm libraries on Jellyfin and Emby without trouble, so I'm going to close this as already supported.
The laggy playback is a separate problem, and we'd like to track it down. If it's still happening, please open a bug report with:
the device and platform you're watching on, and the Moonfin version
your Emby server version
whether the Emby dashboard shows the stream as direct play or transcoding while it's lagging

That will show us whether the slowdown is coming from the app, the server or the source the .strm points to.
