🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
Reject a known binding profile when its version_major is not 1.
validate_tactile_binding_profile checks the profile ID and then parses payload as the v1 TactileBindingProfile layout. It never reads profile.version_major(). The schema comment says that version_major controls compatibility. A profile with a known ID and version_major = 2 (or 0) is therefore parsed and accepted as v1. The validator reports the profile as understood, but the payload semantics can differ. A REQUIRED profile must fail closed in this case. Check the major version only. Accept any version_minor, because minor changes are additive.
validate_tactile_metadata (Line 172) has the same gap: it accepts any non-zero schema_version, so a v2 metadata buffer passes as v1.
Proposed fix
inline void validate_tactile_binding_profile(const SemanticProfile& profile, size_t node_count)
{
+ if (profile.version_major() != 1)
+ {
+ throw std::invalid_argument("unsupported tactile binding profile major version");
+ }
const auto* payload = profile.payload();At Line 172:
- if (metadata.schema_version() == 0)
+ if (metadata.schema_version() != 1)
{
- throw std::invalid_argument("schema_version must be positive");
+ throw std::invalid_argument("unsupported tactile schema_version");
}Based on learnings: "readers/parsers should reject inputs with a different major version (breaking changes), but accept any minor version difference within the same major."

Summary
SemanticProfileenvelope with versioning, required/optional handling, opaque typed payloads, and content-addressed external resourcesTactileTrackerexamples/tactile; the printer reports metadata and the first/last taxel values once per second through the standard DeviceIO interfaceProtocol boundary
The per-frame schema contains only tactile values and per-taxel status. Immutable geometry and measurement semantics use tracker metadata. Skeleton and runtime associations use typed profiles, so unknown extensions remain forwardable and IsaacCapture-specific session identifiers do not enter the portable tactile core.
