fix(webxr): preserve connection errors and refresh PICO sessions - #1360
A failed CloudXR connection can leave the PICO browser unable to reconnect until the page is refreshed. The PICO 4 Ultra profile now defaults to refreshing after every session end, including connection failures; other profiles default to never refreshing. Manual refresh choices remain editable and persist through the Custom profile. Selecting Custom preserves current settings; selecting a named profile reapplies its defaults.
Save the full error message, including the hexadecimal code supplied by CloudXR, before refreshing and restore it in the same tab after reload. Clear it when streaming connects successfully. Error-triggered refresh now runs from the error callback so the preceding status callback cannot reload before the code is saved. Restoring an error does not trigger another refresh. Session errors retain banner priority over asynchronous capability notices and status cleanup until a stream connects successfully.
Update CloudXR troubleshooting and the teleop Quick Start with the defaults and retry behavior.
Validation:
All 134 Jest tests pass, including localhost WebSocket integration tests and profile defaults and Custom/reload behavior, plus hook persistence, unavailable storage, and asynchronous startup notice regressions.
Production webpack build passes with asset-size warnings.
ESLint and all pre-commit hooks pass.
Full TypeScript checking remains blocked by errors in the unchanged XR recorder and its tests.
The strict Sphinx build remains blocked by duplicate example hyperlink targets in the unchanged ego_post_processing/egohand.rst; no diagnostics point to the edited docs.

Walkthrough
The client now defaults to no automatic refresh for profiles without a specified mode. PICO 4 Ultra defaults to refreshing after any session end, while Quest 3 uses no automatic refresh. The client stores the latest connection error across page refreshes and clears it after a successful connection. The UI saves auto-refresh choices with the selected profile, and the documentation describes retry and error behavior.

Merge Risk: Moderate · previous review e51c0
After an automatic refresh on PICO 4 Ultra, the saved connection error can be replaced by the capability-check success message, so users may not see the error code the change is meant to keep visible. Selecting the Custom profile also resets the refresh choice. Fix the error-visibility problem before merging; the Custom profile issue is minor.

The title "fix(webxr): preserve connection errors and refresh PICO sessions" matches the main change. The PR saves the full CloudXR error across refreshes and changes auto-refresh defaults, with PICO 4 Ultra refreshing after session end. The title is specific, concise, and follows a conventional-commit style. It does not mention the docs or test updates, which is acceptable.

The PR adds PICO refresh defaults and error persistence. One issue prevents restored errors from remaining visible. All 122 client tests and pre-commit hooks pass; headset behavior was not tested.
App.tsx:213 — Startup capability checks overwrite the restored error. After reload, the error-display effect restores the saved message, but the asynchronous capability check then replaces the same banner with “CloudXR.js SDK is supported.” or a performance notice. Since errorMessage remains unchanged, its effect does not restore the error again. Reproduced using the production effects and UI methods. Preserve the error’s display priority until a stream connects successfully.

deps/cloudxr/webxr_client/src/App.tsx:213 — Prevent startup capability notices from replacing a restored session error. Add coverage that restores an error, completes the asynchronous capability check, and verifies the full error remains visible until successful connection.
