Welcome to Nepal_Quake_Watch! This application is your all-in-one companion for staying informed about earthquakes across Nepal. Whether you are at home, at work, or traveling, this tool gives you real-time data, safety information, and local resources in one simple screen.
You do not need any technical skills to use this app. Just follow the simple download steps below, and you will be up and running in minutes.
Nepal_Quake_Watch combines multiple trusted sources to give you a complete picture of seismic activity and its potential impact. Here is what you can expect:
- Live Earthquake Monitoring: See the latest earthquakes reported by the USGS (U.S. Geological Survey) and the NEMRC (National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Centre) of Nepal. Updates happen automatically.
- ShakeMap Intensity: Understand how strongly the ground shakes in different areas, displayed on an easy-to-read map.
- Population Exposure: See how many people live in the affected wards (using official census data) so you know the potential scale of impact.
- Building Vulnerability: Identify areas where buildings may be more susceptible to damage based on local construction data.
- Hospitals & Emergency Contacts: Find the nearest hospitals and get official emergency phone numbers directly from the app.
All of this information is presented on a simple, interactive map using Leaflet technology.

You will see a list of releases. Click on the latest version (usually at the top). Look for a file that matches your computer type, for example, a file named Nepal_Quake_Watch_Windows.exe.
Click the file name to start downloading. The download should begin automatically. You will see the file in your browser's download folder (usually "Downloads").
Once the download is complete, open your "Downloads" folder and double-click the downloaded file. If Windows asks for permission, click "Yes" to allow it. The app will start immediately. You do not need to install anything else.
Note: If a security warning appears, it is normal. Click "More info" and then "Run anyway" to continue safely.
Using the app is as easy as look, click, learn.
- See Latest Quakes: When the app opens, you will see a map of Nepal. Recent earthquakes appear as colored circles. The color indicates intensity (red = strongest, green = weakest).
- Click on a Circle: Click any circle to see details in a popup window, including magnitude, location, time, and the ShakeMap intensity.
- View Panels: On the right side, you will see quick statistics: total earthquakes today, strongest magnitude, and number of affected people in the selected area.
- Emergency Contacts: Look at the top bar to find the official emergency numbers for Nepal (Police, Ambulance, Rescue). Keep these close!
- Find a Hospital: Use the "Hospitals" button to show hospital locations on the map. Click a hospital icon to see its name and contact number.
That's it! All the data refreshes automatically every few minutes, so you always see the most current information.
This app is designed for the benefit of everyone in Nepal:
