Ninjaboard 2.0 Beta rev 2527 (J2.5.4) - Avatar and Gravatar not displaying

When uploading an avatar image from the profile, the saving progress is behaving normal but the placeholder for the avatar shows no avatar.

What I found out is that the path to the avatar is not generated well.
It seems that there's no file extension attached to the generated image link.

This goes also when the default avatar is set (like when the user has no custom avatar uploaded yet).

Enabling SEF/SEO doesn't make any difference.

I tried the setting "Integrate with Gravatar" set to "Yes", but surprisingly it seems that there are no changes to the path which should actually display the avatar from Gravatar dot Com. It still points to the person's avatar image folder in Ninjaboard.

Not sure about this one.

it is correct behavior that the link always points to a local file or rather specificly a view within ninjaboard

index.php?option=com_ninjaboard&view=avatar&id=63

gravatar avatars are download to the site when it is switched on, so it will still point to ninjaboard, not gravatar.

can you advise if this is still an issue, checking here and it all appears to be working, though it needs some work

Hi Richie,

You are right about this.
Since you have made the changes, everything works fine.
The link generation seems to be like the way it's always have been processed.
So, no more issues here either.

This issue seems to be back with the latest Beta version 2.0.3.

When I try to upload an Avatar from frontend (NB Profile) or backend (NB Users section) all goes well.
The newly uploaded Avatar displays correct in both views.
However, the Avatar doesn't display in the forumpost views.

Again I tried to enable/disable Joomla's SEF settings, but that didn't work.
Also tried to clear Joomla's cache after every action but didn't work either.

Then I tried to test with the Gravatar integration, unfortunately the Gravatar doesn't display in none of the views.

Also when clicking on the Avatar's placeholder in the forumpost view, I got redirected to a 404 page which says "Person not found".

I'm not sure why this is happening again because it was working correct before.
I will give it some more tests to be sure about it.

But the reason I reopen this is that it was also reported at the forums.

Just to add...

When I install the latest Beta 2.0.3 from scratch without sample content, the Avatar seems to work fine.
Seems that the Avatar issue might be related when the sample content for NB is installed.

My previous Beta 2.0.3 installation was updated from the Dashboard over an older Beta version which included the sample content..
I decided to completely uninstall the previous NB Beta (including the belonging components/plugins/modules) and to start with a completely fresh install of NB Beta 2.0.3.

However, the Gravatar function doesn't seem to work yet.
I need to test this some more.

Update...

When Gravatar is enabled in the settings the Gravatar is correctly downloaded from gravatar.com based on the registrated email address (which also needs to be specified in the User Manager of Joomla).
It is saved in /media/ninjaboard/images/avatars/[PERSON ID]/ as gravatar.png.
However, the linking to the gravatar.png file might not be set correctly throughout Ninjaboard.

Currently when gravatar is enabled, the default avatar for the person is displayed.

This needs some inspection.

Update 2...

Tested the Gravatar option again in NB Beta 2.0.3.

After creating a new user and enabling the Gravatar function, the Gravatar displays correct.
However, the Gravatar for existing users didn't display immediately, instead the uploaded custom Avatar still displayed.
After deleting the uploaded custom Avatar image for the existing user via the user's profile and after refreshing the browser, the Gravatar for the existing user shows up correct.

I'm aware that this is the method to execute when Gravatar is enabled in a later stadium.
What I don't understand is that it didn't work the other day.
I guess it has to do with the maintenance script (from Ninjaboard) which is running at the time a super user logs in in the backend.

So, in general the Avatar/Gravatar functionality seems to work correct.
I guess it was a false alarm.
But on the other hand, the functionality only started to work when I had uninstalled the previous installation of NB Beta and reinstalled the latest Beta (2.0.3) without sample content, in other words: created forums, usergroups, setting, topics, posts from scratch.

The only hint I can give is that when I had installed the sample content, the person's items (like avatar, gravatar, profile) are not linked correctly. In J2.5 there's a different ID lookup to a member/user then it is in J1.5.
In J1.5 an Super Admin gets the default ID of 42. In J2.5 I have the current Super User ID of 535, which could be the reason why the Avatar/Gravatar functionality didn't work at the time the sample content was installed.

However, strange enough, the functionality did work at the time Richie fixed this issue.

My guess is that it might be related whether or not a user installs the sample content for Ninjaboard.
