I offer a number of edits aiming to update the content of the main README, with a view to bringing it current and making it more accessible to a wider readership.
A Note to New Code Writers is proposed for the benefit of readers not yet familiar with concepts of class object syntax. If we are publishing then we want it to feel welcoming to a wider range of differently-experienced people. In this case, dial-back the level of prior-acquired knowledge demanded of the reader.
