Severe Graphical Flickering, FPS Drops During Movement, and Visual Quality Feedback (RTX 4050) #60
I've been testing Hookshot and noticed some severe graphical glitches that make the game nearly unplayable at the moment.
The main issue is constant screen flickering. Whenever I move Link or rotate the camera, the rendered scene briefly turns very dark or almost completely black. This keeps happening repeatedly while moving.
Interestingly, the flickering only happens when Link or the camera is moving. If I remain completely still, the flickering stops and the image appears normal.
I've also noticed that whenever the flickering occurs, the FPS drops significantly for a brief moment before recovering.
Performance
Despite the graphical issues, performance is actually quite impressive considering how new this project is.
I'm getting anywhere between 30–60 FPS, depending on what's happening in the game.
On average, Hookshot performs approximately 10–15 FPS better than the emulator on my system.
The severe flickering and momentary FPS drops are currently the biggest problems.
The performance improvement over emulation is definitely promising!
Visual Quality and Feature Suggestions
I've also noticed that the game looks slightly blurrier through Hookshot compared to the emulator. The emulator currently produces a noticeably cleaner and sharper image.
A few additions I'd love to see in future updates:
Sharpening Filter: An adjustable post-processing sharpening effect would help improve image clarity.
Native NVIDIA DLSS Support: Having DLSS upscaling, similar to what's available in the emulator, would be fantastic for both image quality and performance.
Graphical Stability: Fixing the flickering and associated FPS drops would make the current performance improvements much more enjoyable.
Final Thoughts
Overall, I'm genuinely impressed by the performance for such an early build. Getting 10–15 additional FPS over emulation is already a great result.
Unfortunately, the graphical flickering currently makes the game too difficult to play comfortably. It is unplayable right now but fixing this glitch alone and improving the performance a bit alone makes it much more playable.
I'm looking forward to seeing how the project progresses, especially with further graphical fixes and optimizations.

Thanks. One-frame black/dark flashes, brightness flicker and the dark bars or corruption at the screen edges are all tracked in #145, where a fix is being worked on, so I'm closing this as a duplicate. Please follow #145 and try https://github.com/NotRexed/Hookshot/releases/tag/foliage-linux-updater.
