task: Epic verification for the settings restructure (#975) #979
Updated 2026-10-24 to cover #969 and #971, which joined the epic.
Epic verification for the settings restructure. Proves the Location move, GPS mode, the button/buzzer split and per-channel tone work together as one unit.
Checks
Settings matches the approved mockups (docs/initiatives/standalone/975-settings-restructure/): Location directly under Radio Settings, Radio stats unchanged, Buzzer and tones under Message Settings, Button actions under Node Settings.
GPS appears in exactly one place.
GPS mode on a radio with caps byte 2 0x20 (the QCC2 badge runs firmware 5ad6972c): Off, On and Power save each write and the screen shows the echoed stored state. Off then On returns to Power save. The status row names backed off with its wait. A sleep interval of 1 to 299 shows as 300 after save; 0 shows as firmware default.
Power save hidden on a radio whose GPS reply says ps_ok = 0.
A radio without 0x20 keeps today's on/off control and its existing custom-var writes, unchanged.
Per-channel tone on a radio with 0x10: Default (inherit), Silent and a named tone stay distinct after a round trip.
Nothing else written to the radio changed: reporting interval, button actions and buzzer settings write the same values they did before.
Capability gating on real hardware, both Windows and Android: a radio with GPS, a radio without, and a buzzer-only radio if one is available.
Narrow and wide layouts both: SettingsShell switches to the side rail at 720 px.
