We are an open-source modding team and community standing for human-made art, mods and modpacks. Our projects include Monifactory, Oktawia's AE2 addons, and more!
This organization and all projects within have strict rules for AI usage.
- All AI usage in any form must be disclosed. You must state the tool you used (e.g. Claude Code, Cursor, Amp) along with the extent that the work was AI-assisted.
- The human-in-the-loop must fully understand all code. If you can't explain what your changes do and how they interact with the greater system without the aid of AI tools, do not contribute those changes.
- Issues and discussions can use AI assistance but must have a full human-in-the-loop. This means that any content generated with AI must have been reviewed and edited by a human before submission. AI is very good at being overly verbose and including noise that distracts from the main point. The author must do their research and trim this down.
- AI-generated media is explicitly banned (art, images, videos, audio, etc.). Code is the only acceptable AI-generated content, per the other rules in this policy. Committed changes containing visibly AI-generated non-code text - such as descriptions or documentation - are not allowed.
- Bad AI drivers may be blocked. People who produce bad contributions that are clearly AI (slop) may be blocked from making future contributions. We love to help junior developers learn and grow, but if you're interested in that, don't use AI and we'll help you. Proper use of AI tools requires a certain level of skill and experience, and developing those skills is easier and healthier by keeping AI out of the equation.
- If you don't need it, don't use it. While AI assistance is allowed, we would still like to keep it to a minimum.
Please remember that all Omicron Industries projects are developed and maintained by humans.
Every discussion, issue, and pull request is read and reviewed by humans (and sometimes machines, too). It is a boundary point at which people interact with each other and the work done. It is rude and disrespectful to approach this boundary with low-effort, unqualified work, since it puts the burden of validation on the maintainer.
At its core, this is purely a harm reduction policy; it is practically impossible to ban AI usage entirely, for the simple reason that some people will simply lie about it and try to hide it. So, having an explicit policy for regulation and transparency is the next best option we have.
Still, in the end, the best AI use is no AI use. This applies especially to less experienced contributors, since proper use of AI assistance requires a certain level of experience to review and edit the output into something of acceptable quality.
This policy is adapted and modified from the Gregtech CEu Modern project.
