A technical mod that enables The Sims 4’s hidden vanilla logging system at startup. Based on Scumbumbo's Log Enabler, now updated for modern use.
Mod to enable the TS4 vanilla logs on startup. Based on https://modthesims.info/d/606667/sims-log-enabler.html by scumbumbo.
Available via the in-game cheat console while the mod is running:
- logs.enable .... Enable logging, the log is always appended. Restarting TS4 clears the log.
- logs.disable ... Disable logging and close all open log files.
- logs.flush ..... Write buffered logs to disk.
- logs.level n ... Change the log level to n=[0..5] (FATAL, ERROR, WARN, INFO, DEBUG or ALWAYS)
Note: All console changes are temporary and not saved to the configuration file.
On startup, the mod generates a configuration file with the following options:
- ENABLE_LOGGING: bool = True ... Write the vanilla logs when starting TS4
- BUFFERING: int = 1 ............ Buffer and write one line. <0:default; 0:unbuffered; 1:line; 2:os_default; >2:byte_size. https://docs.python.org/2/library/functions.html#open
- FORCE_FLUSH: bool = True ...... False: Don't flush the file after every write (if buffering is set)
- LOG_LEVEL: int = 5 ...........
[0..5](FATAL, ERROR, WARN, INFO, DEBUG or ALWAYS) - GROUPS: set = {} .............. {}=All. Specify individual case-sensitive groups to log, e.g. {'Zone', 'Utils'}
The file uses Python’s dict() syntax — not JSON. Use True or False (case-sensitive).
This mod has been tested with The Sims 4 1.121.372, S4CL 3.20, TS4Lib 0.3.42.
It is expected to remain compatible with future releases of TS4, S4CL, and TS4Lib.
Download the ZIP file - not the source code. Required components:
If not already installed, download and install TS4 and the listed mods. All are available for free.
- Locate the localized
The Sims 4folder (it contains theModsfolder). - Extract the ZIP file directly into this folder.
This will create:
Mods/_o19_/$mod_name.ts4scriptMods/_o19_/$mod_name.packagemod_data/$mod_name/*mod_documentation/$mod_name/*(optional)mod_sources/$mod_name/*(optional)
Additional notes:
- CAS and Build/Buy UGC without scripts will create
Mods/o19/$mod_name.package. - A log file
mod_logs/$mod_name.txtwill be created once data is logged. - You may safely delete
mod_documentation/andmod_sources/folders if not needed.
If you prefer not to extract directly into The Sims 4, you can extract to a temporary location and copy files manually:
- Copy
mod_data/contents toThe Sims 4/mod_data/(usually required). mod_documentation/is for reference only — not required.mod_sources/is not needed to run the mod..ts4scriptfiles can be placed in a folder insideMods/, but storing them in_o19_is recommended for clarity..packagefiles can be placed in a anywhere insideMods/.
If installed correctly, no troubleshooting should be necessary. For manual installs, verify the following:
-

The Sims 4folder exist? (e.g. localized to Die Sims 4, Les Sims 4, Los Sims 4, The Sims 4, ...)- Does it contain a
