What's new in v0.1.4

🏠 Home-first, safer, and calmer. The Cave now opens on Home with a redesigned navigation and chat interface, a broad security-hardening pass locks down mobile and project surfaces, iOS chat gets noticeably smoother, and a neutral-graphite repaint unifies the whole design system.

Added

  • Home-first launch + cross-surface sidebar memory — every fresh launch opens on the Home surface (chat stays one step away via ⌘2 / the composer; ?mode= deep links and #chat-… hashes still land where they point), and the sidebar's open/collapsed state is now remembered across launches and surfaces via one global preference (cave:shell:nav-open) (cave-igs4, #3567 area).
  • Chat & navigation revamp — an icon rail information architecture, a single command bar, a progressive-disclosure composer, a left side-panel on every destination page, and a chats rail that sits beside the global nav with overflow-menu actions (#3487, cave-rf2q).
  • First-project onboarding — a first-project gate with an inline folder picker, chat gated on the first project, project-root guidance, and closed gate-bypasses (#3566).
  • Rituals & queue — rituals sidepanel redesign with per-item mute/snooze/done, a minimalist rituals overview, a queue triage toolbar (search · priority bands · sort) with a bead inspector, file-bead + claim-for-familiar flows, and tamed N-bead lanes (cave-u2p1, cave-p63a, cave-19jy).
  • Dashboard & analytics — a bento-grid dashboard, a progression band (renown tier, next-rung meter, ritual streak), a coven ritual-streak KPI, and an ambient ritual-streak chip in the daily summary (cave-g9os, cave-p5d0, cave-eg4g, cave-qvox).
  • Design-system tooling — an ESLint design-token lint gate plus a TSX tokenize codemod, and the danger/sunken token vocabulary formalized (#3494, cave-309m).
  • More surfaces & choices — doc search moved into the header, voice-started chats, comma-separated stop-phrase options, per-familiar backdrop switch, mobile bottom tabs derived from the sidebar, degraded-familiar rendering on the weave rail, dev phone-pairing self-provisioning, a PR-merge reward flare on the chat GitHub card, and clickable recent-memory peek rows on familiar cards (#3283, cave-kf8p, cave-os73, cave-hshy, cave-00w0).

Security

  • Mobile & project surface lockdown — reject mobile access on local-only APIs while preserving write surfaces for mobile project APIs, gate project stores on Cave-home reconciliation, exempt direct loopback peers from the mobile access-token gate, remove a hijackable iOS app URL scheme, reject SVG familiar avatars, require local confirmation for installs, and use timing-safe compares for sidecar token checks (#3560, #3561, #3558, #3556, #3489-area).

Changed

  • Neutral-graphite repaint — the default Coven palette was repainted toward neutral graphite and default surfaces darkened for a calmer, more unified look (#3486, #3567).
  • Navigation consolidation — standalone routes consolidated behind a redirect pattern with all 20 pages classified, formalized alias modes (canonical/alias split), and one canonical name per surface (Tasks & Rituals everywhere) (cave-m4ih).
  • iOS chat performance — thread persistence debounced and moved off the main thread, assistant stream tokens coalesced, unchanged bubbles skipped while typing, and ISO-8601 parsers cached (#3456).

Fixed

  • Chat resilience — recover stale transcript after a stream drop, bound conversation writes with a documented write contract, canonicalize agent attachment paths, prevent deleted sessions from reappearing, abort stale mobile-handoff modal fetches, and add a friendly zero-session empty state (#3476, #3493, #3463).
  • Windows & daemon — fixed Windows Cave launch and Hermes chat, daemon status during Cave-home lock contention, deferred notary credentials until submission, avoided daemon npm install during signed updates, let CLI updates proceed on launchd-supervised daemons, and honored models in daemon-backed sessions (#3495, #3488, #3557, #3559).
  • Canvas, board & charts — stop corrupt stores from destroying sketches and harden the artifact sanitizer, preserve explicit artifact updates after dedupe, stop byte-identical duplicate saves, reject invalid board status/priority on create, and fix chart mount/label rendering (cave-byr5, cave-spq7, cave-pn9v).
  • Projects, run-history & misc — allow creating projects anywhere under $HOME, harden flow/workflow run-history mutators, keep archived chats out of the browse-mode Recent list, and keep nav/chats panes solid over the backdrop image (#3480, #3489, cave-lzk2).

What's new in v0.1.3

🧭 A more capable, resilient Cave. Coven conversations gain selectable dispatch modes and durable task handoffs, live chats reconnect cleanly across desktop and iOS, and a broad security and performance pass makes everyday work faster and safer.

Added

  • Selectable Coven dispatch modes — choose Broadcast to send a prompt to every familiar at once or Round robin to advance through the roster one familiar at a time (#3377).
  • Richer chat continuity — familiar task handoffs route back into chat, next-path suggestions can fill the composer, and reconnectable stream cursors let desktop and iOS re-attach to live turns without restarting them (#3374, #3358, #3331, #3351).
  • Weaves, progression, and creation surfaces — a verified weave graph connects threads to memory, renown tiers and ritual streaks add milestone feedback, and Canvas gains an in-grid add flow for described, pasted, or blank sketches (#3363, #3350, #3359, #3342).
  • Deeper diagnostics and setup guidance — chat debug tools gain filtering, safer exports, served-model and usage details; daemon status distinguishes offline from failed checks; mobile pairing now explains its probe ladder and recovery steps (#3361, #3357, #3352, #3378, #3305, #3257).
  • New appearance and model choices — the OpenAI monochrome theme joins the palette, familiar selection scales through a dropdown, and GPT-5.6 variants are available in the Copilot catalog (#3355, #3360, #3345).

Changed

  • Faster rendering and transcript loading — unchanged conversation transcripts are no longer reparsed, and route-scoped styles cut the root stylesheet from 886 KiB to 630 KiB while keeping new bundle budgets around the improvement (#3375, #3364).
  • Clearer work surfaces — research intake is reduced to a focused composer, Familiar analytics use full-width panels, the composer footer owns project/runtime/git/task context, and Skills adopts the Marketplace side-panel grammar (#3365, #3367, #3347, #3343).
  • Thread-backed truth — daemon adapters become the default for Threads, decision refusals surface verbatim, dashboard confidence reads from thread self-reports, and the retired synthetic response-confidence path is removed (#3362, #3349, #3332).
  • Vault-gated fleet access — Omnigent Fleet surfaces now appear only when OMNIGENT_TOKEN resolves through the user's Cave Vault rather than from ambient machine credentials (#3333).

Fixed

  • Browser, editor, and iOS stability — browser panes replace perpetual reconciliation with bounded event-driven recovery, Shiki can no longer mutate the shared theme singleton, and iOS WebView zoom only accepts trusted base URLs (#3376, #3366, #3379).
  • Chat and session correctness — suggestion chips target their author, stale recent-chat deletes stay deleted, debug modals bind to the right session, startup blocks no longer leak into exec parsing, and desktop focus-listener teardown no longer throws an unhandled runtime error (#3373, #3369, #3339, #3326, #3334).
  • Self-healing local runtime state — built-in-shadowed adapter manifests repair themselves, orphaned home-migration takeovers recover, sidecar ports stay synchronized, and disabled mobile serving clears stale state (#3372, #3356, #3301, #3303).
  • Studio input reliability — typed voice IDs persist across field changes and unmounts, while IME composition no longer commits voice fields early (#3354, #3368).
  • Release provenance — manual release rebuilds check out the exact tag receiving their artifacts, and Apple notarization credentials no longer appear in process arguments (#3318, #3328).

Security

  • Project roots, saved workspaces, project search, file actions, and offline replay now validate or constrain user-controlled paths before reading or executing (#3295, #3321, #3323, #3304, #3314, #3325).
  • Local-origin, proxy, mobile, hosted-context, and automation routes now fail closed when tokens, trusted hosts, or loopback guarantees are absent (#3296, #3299, #3302, #3307, #3308, #3309, #3310, #3317, #3319, #3320, #3322).
  • Child-process and prompt boundaries scrub toolchain secrets, fence untrusted daily-report facts, validate GitHub identities, and require local-human authorization for grant mutations (#3294, #3300, #3306, #3327).

Install

  • macOS (Homebrew): brew install --cask opencoven/tap/coven-cave (installs the latest release)
  • macOS (Apple Silicon): download CovenCave-v0.1.3-aarch64.dmg, open it, drag CovenCave.app to Applications.

What's new in v0.1.2

🛡️ A safer, leaner Cave. Windows home migration becomes lossless and contention-safe, the familiar glyph catalogue leaves the startup bundle, encrypted backup/restore arrives, and daily chat, dashboard, updater, and multi-host workflows get a broad reliability pass.

Added

  • Encrypted backup and restore — export Cave state into a manually controlled encrypted archive and restore it through the new persistence flow (cave-166o).
  • Voice model registry — discover speech engines and models, download them with checksum verification, and surface honest engine readiness (cave-ti1j).
  • Threads Phase 4 surfaces — read plumbing, weave rail, thread pane, strand inspection, and proposal approval complete the Phase 4 Cave experience, with follow-up validation hardened fail-closed (#3223, #3248, #3254).
  • Multi-host workspace routing — Omnigent hosts can map their own workspaces for multi-machine runs (#3247).
  • Inbox series and project context — repeating schedules group into series rows with a past-due filter, workspace threads show PR-status badges, and new familiars record the Cave runtime host (#3244, #3249, #3282).
  • Theme: Snow — a frost-blue palette based on tweakcn's Frosty joins desktop and iOS, with contrast-tuned light and dark tokens (#3242).
  • Navigation polish — sticky familiar-tab context and keyboard navigation for research missions reduce context loss in dense workspaces (cave-d9d6, cave-pwev).

Changed

  • Faster startup — the full familiar glyph catalogue is now lazy-loaded and guarded by a production bundle budget (#3288).
  • Quieter polling — GitHub task results are cached, duplicate Recent Activity session polling is removed, and optional API failures stop creating request storms (#3272, #3271, #3280).
  • Clearer onboarding and updates — readiness is separated from update checks, Coven CLI update tracing is hardened, and safe updater lifecycle traces remain available for diagnostics (#3259, #3260, #3274).

Fixed

  • Lossless Windows home migration — legacy Cave homes reconcile without overwriting divergent user data, and concurrent or orphaned migration locks recover without fixed timeout failures (#3270, #3289).
  • Dashboard truthfulness — Needs-you counts remain accurate beyond the display cap, stale profile/growth requests cannot overwrite fresher state, and caught-up status reads from live polling (#3240, #3241, #3245, #3246, #3252).
  • Packaging and routing reliability — standalone tracing stays scoped to release inputs, deprecated request URL parsing is removed, and copilot sessions preserve hub routing (#3284, #3279, #3239).

Security

  • Unsafe project roots are rejected, sidecar-only environment variables are scrubbed from child processes, thread adapter metadata is validated, pending listings fail closed, and the familiar contract path alert is resolved (#3238, #3255, #3254, #3286).

Install

  • macOS (Homebrew): brew install --cask opencoven/tap/coven-cave (installs the latest release)

🌙 First minor milestone. CovenCave steps out of the 0.0.x patch stream with a rebuilt marketplace (Capabilities retired, Skills modernized, Crafts agentically buildable), familiar access groups with per-project read/write levels, cross-platform find-anything search, first-class OpenCode, a bounded research mission desk, the CovenWiki Phase 3 regeneration CLI, and a wide band of chat/settings/perf/a11y hardening — with React Compiler now on across the app.

Features

  • Marketplace: Capabilities retired, Skills modernized, Crafts agentically buildable — the marketplace drops the legacy Capabilities surface, refreshes the Skills experience, and makes Crafts something familiars can build agentically rather than hand-authored only (cave-4n7j) (#3072).
  • Permissions: familiar access groups — familiars can be organized into access groups with read/write project levels, so project visibility and mutation rights are governed per group instead of all-or-nothing (#3071).
  • Search: cross-platform find-anything — global search on iOS plus a command-palette search on web, so "find anything" works consistently across platforms (#3070).
  • Research: bounded mission desk — a bounded research mission desk for scoping and running research missions inside Cave (#3046).
  • CovenWiki: Phase 3 regeneration hook CLI — a scan / diff / plan / run CLI for the CovenWiki Phase 3 regeneration hook (#3064).
  • Runtimes: first-class OpenCode — the registry-accepted OpenCode runtime now gets first-class treatment across Cave: a deliberate runtime glyph in the composer chip and adapter surfaces (instead of the generic fallback), and sign-in failure detection that offers the copyable opencode auth login fix. Everything else (onboarding detection, chat trust, adapter-manifest scaffolding, model selection, raw-stdout chat passthrough) already flows from the synced runtime registry (#3062).
  • Chat: consolidated Settings tab + auto-archive on thread reflections — the chat page gains a Settings tab (beside Sessions and Projects) consolidating device-wide chat behavior: the full auto-archive policy (master switch, archive on task completion, idle windows for external and any chats) is now editable in the app instead of config-file only. It also introduces a new trigger — archive on thread reflection: when enabled, a thread archives itself the moment its reflection (self-report) lands, for manual and auto reflections alike; periodic reports and keep-marked chats never auto-archive, and the reflect flow refreshes the session list so the row moves immediately (#3050).
  • Onboarding: hand-held first run through the first chat — the setup wizard now shows a three-beat journey strip (Set up Cave → Summon a familiar → First chat) so it never reads as a dead-ended infra checklist; completing setup surfaces an above-the-fold success banner, and the finish CTA keeps its promise by opening the Summoning Circle directly (decided on the wizard's own fresh status, immune to the workspace's slower daemon poll). In the circle, the name stage gains one-click identity templates (Code reviewer, Research assistant, Project planner, Writing partner) that fill the role and required description, and the success stage hands keyboard focus to "Begin the first conversation" so Enter completes the funnel (cave-uvv7).
  • Chat: keep/extend controls in the chat list — per-chat keep/extend controls surface directly in the chat list, alongside a tailnet mobile-access marker fix in the proxy path (#3068).
  • Quick-chat: one shared notch route — the notch is served from /quick-chat?notch=1, a single shared route instead of a divergent surface (#3043).

Fixes

  • iOS: search deep link no longer tears down the tab tree — the .search deep link is consumed so a stale marker can't collapse the tab tree on iOS (#3073).
  • Notifications: bell Open lands on the Inbox view — a notification row's Open now marks the item read, scopes to its familiar, and opens the Inbox (Schedules) surface instead of jumping straight into a chat session; session jumps remain on the chat surface and Home "needs you" paths (cave-ipze) (#3067).
  • UI: stop consuming --accent as the brand accent — the shadcn surface token --accent is no longer hijacked as the brand accent color (cave-ilkk) (#3066).
  • a11y: tablist semantics restored on the chat right-panel section tabs — the right-panel section tabs regain proper tablist roles/keyboard semantics (cave-t7uz) (#3065).
  • Stitches: GitHub pin field primed with the repo prefix — the GitHub pin input is pre-filled with the repo prefix (#3063).
  • Familiars: no phantom Summoning Circle on revisit — a summon request handled by an already-open Familiars surface left the cross-surface latch armed, so the next visit popped the circle open uninvited; the event listener now consumes the latch too (cave-ibvl) (#3054).
  • Settings: recover missing OpenCoven tools — a recovery path for missing OpenCoven tool installs, plus verified tool-update handling (#3031, #3029).
  • Settings: normalize Windows paths in post-install recheck — the post-install recheck comparison normalizes Windows paths so a valid install isn't misread as missing (#3058).
  • Knowledge: hardened knowledge packs — code-review follow-ups hardening the knowledge packs flow (#3051, #3045).
  • UI: guard fire-and-forget fetches — a dead daemon can no longer crash the app through unguarded fire-and-forget fetches (cave-nwm5) (#3053).
  • About: diagnostics path redaction hardened + safe diagnostic states — About diagnostics redact paths more strictly and preserve safe diagnostic states (#3059, #3061).
  • Settings: reattach to running OpenCoven installs — Settings correctly reattaches to already-running OpenCoven installs (#3060).
  • Familiars: consume the summon latch in the already-mounted path — the summon latch is consumed when Familiars is already mounted (cave-ibvl) (#3054).

Performance

  • React Compiler enabled — the React Compiler is turned on across the app (cave-n9a8) (#3056).
  • Chat: coalesce SSE assistant chunksassistant_chunk frames are coalesced into one commit per flush window (cave-w50e) (#3055).
  • Chat: memoize the transcript subtree — the transcript subtree is memoized out of ChatView's keystroke path (cave-likl) (#3049).
  • Polls: hidden-window discipline — client polls pause for hidden windows, with a structural guard (cave-e794) (#3057).
  • Sessions: async git enrichment + SWR cache/api/sessions/list git enrichment goes async, and the list gains a stale-while-revalidate cache (cave-n37w, cave-5m1c) (#3044, #3052).

🧼 The open-issue sweep, plus Hermes chat out of the box. Every open UI issue from the queue lands fixed — the drifting comment pill, overflowing Salem answers, the stranded post-summon error screen, and the silent Enhance button — alongside working Hermes-familiar chat on fresh machines and a chat-tab home for the inspector.

Features

  • Onboarding: hermes-coven shim auto-installs — installing Hermes through the Cave now wires the hermes-coven shim automatically, so Hermes-familiar chat works out of the box with no manual shim step (#3025).
  • Chat: inspector lives in chat tabs — finishes the inspector-into-chat-tabs migration, so session inspection happens in a chat page tab instead of a separate inspector pane (#3022).

Fixes

  • Chat: comment pill tracks its selection — the floating Comment affordance repositions with the live selection on scroll/resize instead of hovering over unrelated prose (#3024).
  • Search: long Salem answers scroll — the Ask Salem answer region caps its height inside the palette instead of overflowing the viewport (#3024).
  • Chat: roster errors self-heal — a transient familiar-roster failure (e.g. right after summoning your first familiar) now retries automatically instead of stranding an error screen behind a manual Retry (#3024).
  • Tasks: Enhance reports its outcome — the top-bar Enhance button now states what happened (enhanced count, nothing to do, or failure) instead of finishing silently (#3024).
  • Chat: stranded "created" sessions are reaped — daemon session rows left in "created" when the harness spawn dies pre-handshake are cleaned up instead of accumulating (#3023).
  • Runtimes: Hermes 1.0.1 sync — registry sync picks up the hermes-coven shim and the -q prompt fix, unbreaking Hermes-familiar chat (#3021).

🔍 Trace what your familiars actually did. Familiar analytics gains a session trace timeline (the daemon event stream finally has a surface), a Recent sessions drill-through list, a clickable 14-day pulse, and live auto-refresh — plus hardened cave-home migration and GitHub chat-launch fixes.

Features

  • Analytics: session tracing + live drill-throughs — a session trace overlay reads the daemon event timeline per session (reachable from the Familiars Sessions tab and the analytics page); familiar analytics adds a Recent sessions section where every row opens its thread or its trace, the hero 14-day pulse becomes a clickable day filter, response-confidence events link back to the conversation that produced them, analytics and growth auto-refresh every 60s, and growth signals carry next-step action links (#3018).
  • Cave: hardened home migration — the cave-home startup migration merges directories per-file instead of skipping on collision, and surfaces conflicts instead of silently dropping them (#3019).

Fixes

  • GitHub: chat launch payload aligned — GitHub popover and safe-merge chat launches use initialPrompt (the retired context field is gone) and safe merge forwards the working projectRoot, matching the chat surface contract (#3017).
  • Tools: Coven CLI freshness floor + Windows shims — raises the Coven CLI compatibility floor to 0.0.54, fixes Windows npm .cmd shim parsing so extensionless package bins resolve correctly, and uses the packaged CovenCave logo on the startup splash (#3011).

🔌 OpenCoven tools clarity: correct coven-code install path, cleaner harness versions, and GPT-5.6 models. Every coven-code surface now points at the scoped @opencoven/coven-code package (min 0.6.0) instead of the deprecated bare squat, harness version probes ignore log noise, the notch centers correctly across monitors, and familiar auth failures explain how to recover.

Features

  • Models: GPT-5.6 Codex models — adds the GPT-5.6 Codex model family (gpt-5.6-sol/-terra/-luna) and moves the default familiar model to gpt-5.6-sol (#3007).
  • Cave: dedicated cave home with startup migration — a dedicated cave home directory with an automatic startup migration and a one-click migration banner (#3005).

Fixes

  • Onboarding: coven-code installs only as @opencoven/coven-code — the bare coven-code npm package is a different, deprecated package (stuck at 0.0.22); every install/status/update surface now targets the scoped @opencoven/coven-code exclusively, with a 0.6.0 compatibility floor (#3013).
  • Runtimes: corrected coven-code install hint — synced the registry so the install hint points at @opencoven/coven-code (the old @opencoven/coven does not exist on npm) (#3014, #3015).
  • Harnesses: skip log noise in version probes — version detection ignores leading timestamp/log-level lines (e.g. OpenCode's WARN FZF not found) instead of reporting them as the version (#3006).
  • Notch: exact-center on the mouse's screen — the quick-chat notch always centers on the top-bar middle and opens on whatever monitor the cursor is on unless pinned (#3009).
  • Familiars: actionable hub-auth error — a 401/403 loading familiars now explains that the hub rejected this Cave's token and to reconnect, instead of a bare status code (#3008).
  • Onboarding: require descriptions for new familiars — new familiars must carry a description (#3002).
  • Onboarding: quiet npm "Unknown env config" warnings — npm config warnings no longer leak into Tools output (#3001).
  • Startup: sidecar cache validation — validates the sidecar cache on startup (#3010).

Chores

  • Copy: capitalize "Coven CLI" — consistent "Coven CLI" casing across prose (#3012).

🧹 Chat housekeeping, familiar lifecycle, and updater polish. Chats gain an automatic archive policy and a centered quick-chat notch, familiars get a discoverable Remove entry and a cleaner picker, the copilot harness renders tool calls, and the update banner leads with the native installer.

Features

  • Chat: automatic archive policy — a configurable policy sweeps stale chat sessions into the archive automatically, with session list/detail support and a settings surface (#2995).
  • Quick-chat: centered notch — an optional centered notch that expands into quick chat (#2981).
  • Familiars: discoverable Remove entry — the familiar detail panel gains a per-familiar overflow menu with Edit in Studio and Remove familiar…, routing to the canonical lifecycle confirm with undo and restore (#2993).

Fixes

  • Chat: copilot harness tool calls — tool calls on the copilot harness render via its JSONL stream instead of staying invisible (#2985).
  • Updater: native retry before browser fallback — when the native update check fails, the banner now recommends retrying the signed native installer before falling back to the browser (#2986).
  • Familiars: cleaner defaults — internal Coven familiar names no longer appear in the summoning circle's name dice, and the generated first-install roster is filtered from the picker (#2994).
  • Secrets: one GitHub tokenGITHUB_PAT is the single source of truth for the GitHub token; the duplicate GITHUB_PERSONAL_ACCESS_TOKEN vault entry is collapsed into it (#2989).
  • Linux: leaner AppImage — libmount is stripped from the AppImage bundle (#2987).

🪄 Craft authoring, GitHub event subscriptions, and chat reliability. Cave can now create local draft Crafts from familiar roles, subscribe to GitHub repository activity, keep pinned chats synchronized across surfaces, and render captured Codex output events reliably on the Windows harness path.

Patch release on top of v0.0.177.

Features

  • Crafts: create local draft Crafts from familiars — the Crafts page can extract a reversible local draft from a familiar's selected roles, including direct and effective skills, tools/capabilities, MCP servers, plugins, prompts, workflows, origin labels, and a review ledger before save (#2974, #2975).
  • GitHub: subscribe to repository events — repository activity can now subscribe to opened PRs and CI completion events for Cave-side project awareness (#2978).
  • Desktop: Coven logo menu-bar icon — the menu-bar tray now uses the Coven logo so Cave is easier to recognize at a glance (#2979).

Fixes

  • Chat: captured Codex output events render correctly — Coven stream-json output events are routed through the assistant filter, persisted, and still preserve error-looking output text for empty-response diagnostics on the Windows captured-piped path (#2982).
  • Chat: pinned chats persist across surfaces — pinned chat state now flows through one shared subscribable store, so chat pins stay in sync between surfaces (#2980).

Docs

  • Settings: attribution note — the preference-persistence changelog credit now names the original author correctly (#2977).
